Paramus NJ,  Westfield Garden State Plaza developers are launching a major redesign to transform the Paramus mall into a lifestyle center, where the community can live, work, play, eat and shop. The aim is to make Garden State Plaza a true town center.

Anticipated to break ground in 2024 and slated to open to residents in 2026, the first phase of development at GSP will include 550 luxury apartment homes built by Mill Creek Residential. The residences will be integrated with the shopping center via a one-acre town green for residents, visitors, and shoppers to enjoy, and will include a ‘main street’ outdoor district featuring restaurants and everyday conveniences and services.  The first phase will also see the restoration of a section of the beloved Sprout Brook, part of the development’s commitment to the community and sustainable development.

BUT DOES IT HAVE A JAPANESE KOI POND?

When all four phases of development are complete, surface parking areas to the west of the shopping center will be home to not just modern luxury apartments, but plazas, parks, gardens, health and wellness amenities, commercial office space, as well as a transit center – alongside new outdoor shops, restaurants, and community event spaces.  Garden State Plaza will be a must-see destination: the perfect place to find the latest fashions, enjoy premier dining, socialize, take a walk or ride a bike, enjoy concerts and cultural festivals, and so much more.

    1. As it turns out communities like this do not cause more traffic and are much better for the environment and lowering crime. The article below is full of great, eye opening information. Enjoy!

        1. Most of us arrive at our opinions about a lot of real-world issues based on simple mental models. And when we are presented with new facts about the issue, our model is the scaffolding on which we hang those facts. When facts don’t fit our mental model, we’re liable to be confused by them or even disregard them.

          2. Wow, so that was a condescending read. Pretty typical of the way our Liberal friends want to convince us of something…hey Boomer your too dumb to understand whatever point I want to make, so I am going to ignore all the things that you’ve learned through experience and float a fact or two that look relevant and say my point is made. If only the world worked that way. So, here is the obvious thing about building apartments in a mall parking lot…you are taking the malls parking away and creating more trips at the same time. The people that want to live at the mall are different than the people that want to shop at the mall (with some overlap of course). Where is everybody going to fit? GSP is already crowded…
Same with 4 & 17…Now you have BOTH shoppers and residents…brilliant. The Developer seeks to recreate a place like “Avalon” in Georgia. Good luck with that – it was planned from the start as mixed-use…apartments above the stores. Pretty nice actually.

            1. Hahaha Oliver, thanks for making things so clear. “…I am going to ignore all the things that you’ve learned through experience and float a fact or two…” Yes. Yes, exactly. I am in fact going to completely ignore your one-off experiences and rely on facts. I know, outrageous, right?

    1. It’s been turning to shit for the last 25 years.

You just haven’t noticed until now since you are the lobster in a pot of boiling water…

  9. I call for more of the ghetto moving in. The crime in that mall is terrible. I can’t even bring my kids to the mall anymore. I feel unsafe!

  10. The place is unsafe. Who would want to live an an area full of crime and filth?

  11. Ironically it would take a rail connection to make this development possible as the Garden State Plaza is located at choke points of Route 17 and Route 4. The Garden State Parkway has its most expensive toll booth there already. Paramus would have to buy off the surrounding towns to make this happen.

  12. This is the Liberal Wet Dream…

Living in a contained controlled environment with no need for vehicles or any other personal freedoms.

Welcome to living in an aquarium like a government pet.

    12

    1. Aquarium?

Doesn’t that west parking lot flood?

  13. If you are curious how this will turn out, research “the Projects” – the nirvana of housing in NYC in the 1950s.

  14. All these small little towns are doing the same shit. The politicians are destroying our little towns. In another five years you got to get the hell out of here. The less you make the less you have the better off you are, because then you’re entitled to everything. You break your ass try to make some money pay your bills and you take it in the ass. Yes Valley Hospital will turn out to be more living apartments. You’ll see. And if you think our local mayor and council can control it think again, they can only slow it down in the end the big boys come in and take over they have all the billions.

  16. If I were a resident of Paramus I would demand that this new “lifestyle center” have its own zip code.

If it’s such a good idea let it stand on its own two feet.

A great idea can support its own schools and police department instead of sponging off current residents tax dollars that have built the schools and services.

    1. Absolutely. You are recommending its own universe. AMEN. Leave our trees alone. They are now trying to propose this nonsense at the BERGEN MALL PARDEN been here too long Bergen Town Center

      1. Kmart on Route 17 will become housing.

  18. I People do you remember the village CBD back in the 80s, and the 90s when the Economy was in the drain, we had any empty stores that just sat there for a long time. If that happens again you watch they’ll change the ordinance that they can rent out the storefront to residential. The government will make a special law for housing, and now they’re bossing everyone over to New York and New Jersey from the border. Where the hell do you think these people are going to live. They’re putting them up in motels, and hotels. Now what

  19. Aren’t the doing something like that near Wegmans in Montvale? maybe not as extensive but it certainly adds to the traffic….
