    Thanks to COVID, many, many schools have dropped the SAT/ACT test requirements.

    This results in more (unqualified) students applying for admission to “super-reach” schools.

    The end effect is that
    a) there are many many more applicants chasing a limited number of spots, making it harder to get accepted in a school you are qualified to attend.
    b) schools are provided “cover” to admit unqualified students to raise their diversity goals without having to explain away or adjust poor SAT/ACT test scores, resulting in qualified candidates being denied admission to schools.
