Fans of the franchises that represent New York in the NFL have had a rough time supporting their favorite team when they compete on the gridiron.
The glory years of the New York Giants appear to be a distant memory, while the New York Jets have also struggled to have any notable success for over a decade. Given how passionate New Yorkers are for the teams that represent the Big Apple, their loyalty truly has not been rewarded in the NFL.
Nonetheless, it is a new season, and given that Week #1 is already in the books, we thought it would be the perfect time to take a look at what could potentially be expected when each team takes to the field. Therefore, in this article, we will take a look at what has already happened, before making a prediction about how the rest of the season will go.
New York Jets begin with a defeat
Things could very much be the same for Gang Green this season, despite the fact that the organization arguably has one of its strongest rosters for a significant period of time. The franchise managed to utilize free agency and the NFL Draft incredibly well, acquiring a number of talents.
Pre-season also looked rather good as they managed to go 3-0 throughout it, however, it seems when it mattered on the pitch, they just failed to lift off and were grounded before they were able to take off. Indeed, they faced the Baltimore Ravens at MetLife Stadium and were beaten by a resounding 9-24.
Joe Flacco took charge against his former team as the starting quarterback but he was only able to throw for one touchdown (fourth quarter), while he also threw an interception. He made 37-of-59 pass attempts for 307 yards, as the Jets clearly opted to utilize the passing game rather than the run game – just 17 rushs were attempted in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Gang Green will now go and face the Cleveland Browns next weekend in Week #2 at FirstEnergy Stadium as they look to get their 2022 NFL season up and running. However, will they be able to go 1-1 or will it result in them being 0-2?
The Browns managed to defeat the Carolina Panthers 24-26 in the dying moments of the game despite former QB Baker Mayfield rallying the Panthers to an unlikely comeback. Nonetheless, Cade York made the winning field goal with it deep towards the end of the game. The Browns will now be feeling confident but will also recognize that they still have work to do and will want to show everyone against the Jets that they can achieve what they want to accomplish.
Indeed, there may be fans in New York who will be interested in wagering on Gang Green this season, though, as they have a strong roster and had a strong preseason. With sports betting legal in the state, and given how loyal and passionate fans are, there is every chance that there will be a number of opportunities available to them.
As a result, we have already seen that there are a number of NJ online sports betting sites odds for the Jets to already be listed all over the place at the best reputable sportsbooks that provide punters some great value across various markets.
However, it is also important to remember that there may be fans who will be interested in placing bets on the other team to share New York and the MetLife Stadium; especially after they had a winning start to the 2022 NFL season…
New York Giants begin the campaign with a victory
There is no denying that the New York Giants are in a transitional stage of its historic franchise, with a number of changes having been made. However, there will be some that will suggest the organization has been in a period of change for a long time as they have declined at a huge rate.
Nonetheless, with Brian Daboll leading the team as the new Head Coach, he could not have been happier to see his organization begin the 2022 NFL season with an unlikely win against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
Big Blue recorded a 20-21 victory as they put up all 21 points in the second half of the game after going behind 13-0. They only allowed a touchdown in the third quarter – where they put together 13 points – before scoring seven in the final quarter without response.

Daniel Jones finally started to put together a string of passes, while Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard both showed signs of being back to their best after suffering in recent seasons; both got touchdowns, as did Chris Myarick.
For fans in the Big Apple, they will be hoping this can be the start of something special, although many will know that the team is still in a state of transition. Next Sunday will be another test as they will host the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium, and many may feel this game will show their credentials a little more; despite the fact that the Titans were one of the best teams in the AFC last season.
Could we see success in New York this season in the NFL?
If we are being realistic, it is probably unlikely that we will see either franchise have success in the NFL this season, however, defining success could be different for each team. If you think of the playoffs, the last time one of these teams managed to make the playoffs was back in 2016 (Giants) and neither organization has really shown any signs of being able to achieve the postseason since then. However, some might define success as being a winning season.
Nonetheless, it is a new season after all and as we all know in professional sport, there are no guarantees and literally anything can potentially happen when teams take to the gridiron. Perhaps this year could be a year in which those who follow the NFL in New York and support one of the franchises will be able to enjoy the season and the successes that it brings.
I’ll take the giants.
