Glen Rock NJ, in a significant development following a year-long investigation, Glen Rock detectives have apprehended a woman suspected of involvement in a theft ring targeting the local Bottle King liquor store. The arrest, made on April 30, marks a crucial breakthrough in the case, shedding light on a series of organized retail thefts that have plagued the community.
The suspect, identified as Shatoya L. Smith, 26, of Newburgh, was taken into custody at the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New York. Smith had previously been apprehended by officers from the Clarkstown Police Department on April 21 and was held as a fugitive during extradition proceedings.
According to Glen Rock police, Smith is believed to be one of several individuals involved in an organized retail theft gang that targeted Bottle King Liquors on Prospect Street throughout 2023. The charges against Smith include two counts of shoplifting and one count of criminal conspiracy in connection with the incidents.
One such incident occurred in April 2023, where suspects executed a “grab and run” shoplifting, absconding with $70 worth of goods. This incident was part of a pattern of thefts, totaling $1,600 in stolen merchandise over the course of eight incidents within the year.
Following her arrest, Smith was transported to Glen Rock Police Headquarters for processing before being transferred to Bergen County Jail. She is currently awaiting an appearance before Central Judicial Processing at the Superior Court in Hackensack.
The arrest underscores the commitment of Glen Rock law enforcement to combatting organized crime and safeguarding local businesses and communities. As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure the security and well-being of residents.

Shatoya the Shoplifter !
what time was she released this morning?
Post of the day!
Thanks to the daily voice publishing a photo of “shatoya”
It should come as no surprise
to the thumbs down moron. people like you trying to hide the fact that 12 percent of the population commits the majority of crime.
Honestly, this was an open and shut case…hard to believe it took 13 months to arrest this person.
Exactly. Why does it take take 13 months to “uncover” a theft ring? Why not arrest on the spot every thief every time ? I can guess why by just looking at the name.
The employees who work at that store are so disinterested it is not surprising that theft rings are targeting the store. There is never an employee near the entrance, which is where the thieves normally exit with the items. It is difficult to get someone to help you and even if you load your cart with beer and wine, maybe if you are lucky someone will grudgingly help you to your car. If it weren’t for the great prices, I wouldn’t bother!
At $70 per that would be over 20 times. Seems that could have caught em in the act!!
I’m sorry but it was more than $70….James had a post last year that one incident was close to $800 if I recall correctly.
Boggles my mind that these folks were hitting stores for 13 months.
The wheels of justice grind slowly I guess.
Re: employees. I have always found them very nice and helpful. Everytime I go into the store knowing exactly what aisle I need to go, I am always asked by staff, can I help you with something. Anyway, glad they finally arrested her.
The employees in the aisles are helpful. The cashiers are anotherstory. Maybe things have changed but they were the most dour / rude cashiers ever
