Glen Rock NJ, the men and women of the Glen Rock Police Department raised the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial flag in honor of National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Week today.
In 2024, the names of 282 officers killed in the line of duty were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These 282 officers include 118 officers who were killed during 2023. An additional 164 officers died in previous years. Many of their stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now. There are currently 24,067 names engraved on the memorial.
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, a total of 72 law enforcement officers were lost. In the years that have followed, illnesses linked to the exposure to toxic materials following the terror attacks have led to nearly 300 deaths from 9/11 related illnesses. Unfortunately, this number continues to rise yearly. In 2023. A total of 15 law enforcement officers have passed due to 9/11 related illness according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
