Glen Rock NJ, ALERT: The Glen Rock Police Department has been advised of packages (cell phones or similar) being delivered to homes that did not order the products. These residents are then receiving phone calls or a knock on the door from individuals who are claiming to represent a shipping company such as FEDEX, UPS or Amazon. The representative advises the resident that that package was delivered by mistake and instructs them to leave the package outside so that it can be picked up and delivered to the “correct” address.
The GRPD is requesting that any resident who receives a package that they DID NOT ORDER and then a phone call similar to above to please IMMEDIATELY contact the Glen Rock Police Department. Residents can contact Central Dispatch directly at 201-652-3800.
Identity theft most likely. Advanced porch pirating.
This is not new, been happening for a long time. Purchases are made with stolen credit cards, shipped to houses that appear vacant, are on the market or have little activity. Thieves receive email that the package was delivered and pop over to the house to pick it up. Thieves are using real estate sites to look for vacant houses, even better if the listing shows no furniture. Keep your eyes open and report unknown cars lingering on your street, they may be waiting for FEDEX, UPS or USPS to make the delivery.
We had a ring of thieves working a rental house on our street until the house was rented and removed from available listings. You don’t want these guys on your street.
We are seen as soft dumb pawns
