Ridgewood NJ, Google has opened up enrollment for its latest career certificate programs and announced new tools and resources for job seekers. And guess what , no college degree necessary.
No need for the teachers union or over priced collage degrees. The new tools could be a game changer for a growing number of people who consider the current educational system broken, or for the millions of Americans who are currently unemployed, much due to fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a blog post, Google chief executive Sundar Pichai said the certificate courses are part of the company’s efforts to help workers upskill to high-demand careers in digital technology.
“Starting today, enrollment is open for our latest Google Career Certificates, in the fields of Data Analytics, Project Management, and User Experience (UX) Design. We’re also announcing a new Associate Android Developer Certification, which prepares learners for entry level jobs in Android development. With 1.3 million jobs open in these fields right now in the U.S., the opportunity is significant.
We’re also providing 100,000 scholarships to be distributed through nonprofits, workforce development boards, and other community organizations such as Per Scholas, NPower and Goodwill. And we’re working closely with the National Association of Workforce Boards to make sure that local workforce programs, one-stop centers, and community employers know how to refer local job seekers to these certificate programs, as well as connect graduates to local jobs.
These certificates have already been successful in bringing in more talent from groups traditionally underrepresented in tech: 53% of graduates of the IT Support Certificate in the U.S. have been female, Black, Latino or veterans. And 82% of graduates overall say the program helped them advance their career within six months, including getting a raise, finding a new job, or starting a new business. “
I suspect this program won’t replace college. A higher edu mafia will protect their cartel and corporations will cooperate by making a college degree a prerequisite for hiring. What will end up is, students going to college and taking google courses as a supplement. Basically more time spent “learning” and paying teachers.
Absolutely wrong.
Your obviously a dinosaur with this ingrained mentality.
We’re not listening to your bullshit anymore.
You live in Ridgewood and pay 110 mil to the board of Ed
and your going to predict my future?
YOU pay the mafia every year you fucking moron.
The success of this ultimately comes down to Google and other companies and if they will practice what they preach. Will they really higher someone who has just this certificate, or does it become an even larger barrier to entry if it turns into hiring people who have this certificate AND a degree?
I do love this idea, though. We need to turn the education system on its head. But we need to ensure we get hiring managers on board. I would love to see this in other industries, particularly financial services. Most corporate jobs can very easily be learned with grit and apprenticeship type training.
When was the last time google did anything that’s not evil?
This has the potential to hurt our football team.
