Hackensack Fire Department Executes Early Morning Rescue After Individual Plunges off Overpass

Hackensack NJ,  in the early hours of November 19, 2024, the City of Hackensack Fire Department showcased their expertise in a dramatic rescue. At approximately 3:00 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of an individual who had fallen onto the railroad tracks near Summit Avenue and American Legion Drive.

Under the command of Deputy Chief J. Ingallinera, members of the Fourth Platoon sprang into action, deploying high-angle rope rescue techniques to reach the individual. The team worked efficiently to access, stabilize, and prepare the patient for safe transport to medical care.

The incident highlights the department’s readiness and skill in handling complex, life-threatening situations. Their swift response and coordination ensured the rescue was executed with precision.

  1. It was only complex because they made it complex. You could have walked down the block and accessed the railroad tracks on foot.

  2. Exactly that to make a show out of it, ridiculous. You should’ve called the railroad police. Let them handle it. just like in Ridgewood transit police need to do more. They need to step it up and have more patrols like they do at other locations. You go down to Secaucus Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark the trans police are all over the place you come up here north you don’t even see them. We don’t need Ridgewood police patrol one the railroad now, just like we don’t need them on route 17. Let the State handle that that’s their property.

  3. It’s amazing how much time our local police are on state highways, where is the state police? Route 17 route 208 route 287 constantly saying local police sitting on the highway to write tickets.
