Hackensack NJ, A ransomware attacked crippled the information technology systems at New Jersey’s largest hospital health network for nearly five days last week, a company statement confirmed Friday.
Ransom malware, or ransomware, is a type of malware that prevents users from accessing their system or personal files and demands ransom payment in order to regain access.
New Jersey’s largest health network has grappled with what they called “externally-driven technical issues” which shut down computer systems since Monday. The Hospital is reporting that most services had been restored by late Friday, according to hospital and union officials.
In a statement issued late Friday, Hackensack Meridian Health officials did not name the source of the disruptions at its 17 hospitals, nursing homes and urgent care centers, saying they were conducting an investigation.
