Hackensack SWAT Raid Exposes Drug Operation; Stolen 1995 Shotgun Recovered

Hackensack NJ, A routine search warrant executed by a regional SWAT team in Hackensack, NJ, led to the arrest of a local man and the recovery of a firearm that had been missing for over three decades.
Members of the Hackensack Police Department’s Crime Suppression Bureau, heavily assisted by the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, converged on a home last Thursday to arrest 68-year-old Joseph Ferro. The strategic raid took place at a residence noted for its close proximity to families and children playing at nearby Columbus Park.
Heroin and Decades-Old Stolen Weapon Recovered
During the targeted search of Ferro’s home, investigators uncovered a localized drug distribution operation alongside an accumulation of high-caliber weapons. Items seized by law enforcement included:

Illicit Narcotics: Individually packaged heroin prepared for street-level sales, a digital scale, and various drug paraphernalia.

A Historic Stolen Firearm: A Winchester Ranger 12-gauge shotgun, which records revealed was originally reported stolen to the New York State Police all the way back in 1995.

Ammunition & Extra Weapons: A Thompson/Center muzzleloader .50 caliber rifle and 25 hollow-point shotgun slug rounds.
Serious Charges Filed Against Hackensack Resident
Following the sweep, Ferro was taken into custody and faces a sweeping list of drug and weapons infractions. Because of the home’s location, the severity of the charges was compounded:

Possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute.

Possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park (Columbus Park).

Multiple criminal weapons offenses.

Theft by knowingly receiving stolen property.
Ferro was processed and transported to the Bergen County Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, where he remains held while awaiting his initial appearance at the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
