Hasbrouck Heights NJ, October 6th proved to be a hectic day for the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department, as they responded to several emergencies, including a tire change gone wrong and two significant car accidents.
The day began with an urgent call to Burton Avenue, where a DIY tire change turned dangerous. A man’s hand became trapped under his car after the jack he was using failed. Chiefs 60 and 62, along with Squad 1 and Ladder 1, quickly arrived at the scene. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle, raised the car, and removed the tire to free the man’s hand. Bergen County EMS evaluated the patient, ensuring no further injuries. Despite the chaos, firefighters continued to stand by for the Town Day event happening that same day.
Later, around 6 PM, the fire department was called to Route 17 South, near Williams Avenue, after a two-car collision left one driver unconscious and trapped inside their vehicle. Responding crews immediately stabilized the vehicle and successfully extricated the unconscious driver. Speedy dry was applied to address a fluid spill at the scene, while EMS evaluated the driver’s condition. Special thanks were extended to Lodi Fire Department for covering the borough during this response.
The busy day ended just after midnight with another call to Route 17 South, this time for a motor vehicle accident involving a significant fluid spill. Chiefs 60, 61, and 62, along with Squad 1, were dispatched. The situation escalated when an antique truck being towed down the highway fell off the tow truck, crashing into a nearby building and causing extensive structural damage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The Wood-Ridge Fire Department was also requested to assist at the scene.
