The Record
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from Rutgers University in 2011, Genna Ayres of Ridgewood knew she wanted to leave New Jersey.
The summer after her graduation, Ayres, now 24, was already scoping out homes in Baltimore, where she spent two years at Goucher College.
It was too good to be true: Her friends were already in Baltimore, she knew the do’s and don’ts of the city, and for only $400 a month, she could share a house that had a yard and ample parking space.
Reality set in, however. Finding a job in her field was proving difficult, and soon the allure of living away from her parents’ nest was not her No. 1 priority.
