World Trade Center Travel Advisory: Security Changes & Campus Closures for 9/11 Anniversary

New York NY- Ahead of the upcoming 9/11 Memorial & Museum anniversary observances, officials are implementing temporary security measures, perimeter fencing, and transit adjustments across the World Trade Center (WTC) campus.

If you are a visitor, commuter, or area resident, expect modified pedestrian routes, subway service changes, and vehicular lane closures starting this weekend through Sunday, September 13.

Pedestrian Routes & Campus Access

Perimeter fencing will secure the 9/11 Memorial & Museum grounds during the commemorative events.

• Greenwich Street Entry Points: Pedestrians entering the memorial plaza before and after Friday, Sept. 11, must use designated access points along Greenwich Street, located between Liberty Street and Vesey Street.

• Full Public Closure: All streets and sidewalks within the secured WTC campus area will be closed to the public from 10:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 10 until 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 11.

• Post-3:00 PM Security Screening: Public entry resumes after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, via Greenwich Street entry points. All visitors must pass through security checkpoints.

• Liberty Park Closure: Liberty Park will remain completely closed to the public for the entire day on Friday, Sept. 11.

Mass Transit Changes: MTA Subway & PATH Service

• MTA 1 Train Bypass: On Friday, Sept. 11, 1 trains will skip WTC Cortlandt station in both directions. Passengers should use nearby subway stops including Fulton Street, Chambers Street, Rector Street, or Cortlandt Street (servicing the 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, E, J, R, and W lines).

• PATH Trains: PATH will operate on its standard weekday schedule. Access to PATH platforms inside the Oculus Transportation Hub will remain open and unaffected.

Vehicular Closures & Commemorative Traffic Holds

• West Street (Route 9A) Lane Closure: From Tuesday, Sept. 8 through Friday, Sept. 11, one right lane on northbound West Street will be closed between Liberty and Vesey streets.

• Port Authority Traffic Holds: Brief commemorative traffic holds will occur across Port Authority vehicular crossings at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, honoring the moments the Twin Towers were struck.
