Hearing on tolls reveals Lautenberg got free ride
A Port Authority executive told lawmakers at a hearing Wednesday that a $12 toll for cars headed to New York City is “fair” but pointed out something that many drivers may think is unfair: Sen. Frank Lautenberg went decades without paying a single toll.
Lautenberg, who is chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, called the hearing to examine accountability and oversight in tolling practices, including toll increases that began in 2011. (Herman, Gannett)
