Paramus NJ, A routine surveillance operation turned into a chaotic scene at the Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey, after three suspects linked to high-end retail thefts rammed multiple patrol vehicles in a desperate attempt to evade arrest.

According to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti, the dramatic takedown occurred around 9:15 p.m. in the crowded mall parking lot.

Spotted at Garden State Plaza

The incident began when Officer Matthew Mulick of the Paramus Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit spotted a suspicious Mercedes in the parking area.

Authorities had already linked the vehicle to two recent handbag robberies at the mall’s Gucci store earlier this month, as well as an additional robbery in Tenafly earlier that same day.

When officers converged on the Mercedes and ordered the occupants to step out, the driver refused to cooperate—instead stepping on the gas.

Police Vehicles Rammed During Arrest

In a bid to escape, the driver accelerated into several surrounding Paramus police cruisers.

Despite the violence of the crash, officers acted swiftly to secure the scene:

• Detective Sgt. Matt McGuire and Officer Matthew Mulick physically removed the driver from the vehicle and took him into custody.

• Officer Sean Casey extracted the front and rear passengers from the car.

One Paramus police officer suffered a minor injury during the incident. He was evaluated at a local hospital and subsequently treated and released.

Three Arrested and Facing Severe Charges

All three men involved were taken into custody and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance. Authorities identified the suspects and their charges:

• Shaquan Cuttino (32, Newark, NJ) – Driver: Charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault by auto, three counts of resisting arrest, three counts of criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit theft, and eluding.

• Tyron N. Hartfield (37, Irvington, NJ): Charged with conspiracy to commit theft, obstruction, and resisting arrest.

• Xavier Z. Granger (22, Newark, NJ): Charged with conspiracy to commit theft, obstruction, and resisting arrest.
