HO-HO-KUS, NJ — A treacherous, rain-slicked highway led to a dramatic early morning crash on Route 17 North on Friday, keeping local first responders busy before dawn.

At approximately 4:00 AM, amidst a driving rainstorm, the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 17 Northbound near the Hollywood Avenue exit.

Driver Miraculously Uninjured after Striking Trees

According to emergency officials, a single vehicle lost control in the severe weather, veered completely off the roadway, and obliterated several road signs before coming to a violent halt inside a dense stand of trees.

Despite the heavy damage to the vehicle and surrounding infrastructure, the lone occupant achieved a miraculous outcome. Fire officials confirmed the driver was able to self-extricate from the wreckage entirely uninjured.

Fire Crews Secure the Scene

Volunteer fire crews quickly arrived to secure the compromised vehicle, mitigating any potential fuel leaks or battery hazards in the downpour. Responders remained on the scene to manage traffic safety until a local towing company successfully extracted and removed the vehicle from the wooded area.

Local authorities urge drivers to use extreme caution on Route 17 during heavy rain events, as pooling water and hydroplaning risks increase significantly near the borough’s major exits.

  1. dispatched at 4:00 AM

please remember that almost all Bergen County firefighters are volunteers. That’s the case in HHK.
    Thanks for your service, really.

At 4 AM and all day.

  2. Slow down,

  3. Also why you don’t build baseball fields and children’s playgrounds adjacent to highways.
