Interview: Gene Simmons Defends Tim Tebow, If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn’t dare say anything

Has polarizing football player Tim Tebow gotten a raw deal in the press because of his religious beliefs? And would he be treated more respectfully if he were not Christian, and specifically, Muslim? Gene Simmons thinks so.
“He’s got a religious passion, as well he should, we’re in America,” the KISS frontman told Radio.com earlier this week. ”He’s proud to be a Christian, what’s wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn’t dare say anything [editor’s note: only Muslim women wear burqas]. But if you’re a Christian, you get to be picked on? What the hell? The guy’s got family values. I never saw the media picking on Michael Vick for torturing dogs. Or this other football player, who’s alleged to have killed, committed murder. That’s ‘cool.’ But a guy who’s religious and has got family values isn’t ‘cool?’ He’s cool to me.”
As has been widely reported, Simmons and his KISS bandmate Paul Stanley are now co-owners of a new Arena Football League team, to be called LA KISS. And Simmons wasted no time drawing attention to the expansion team (which will begin playing in 2014), extending a very public offer to quarterback Tim Tebow, who after a brief up-and-down career in the NFL, was released by the New England Patriots a few weeks ago.

It is never OK to criticize someone for how they practice their faith. We are all for multiculturalism except that we are comfortable making fun of Christians. I mentioned something about a priest recently and an aquaintance right away went off about sexual abuse. Most priests have/had nothing to do with abuse but ignorant people throw it into every discussion about priests. I told the man that what pedophiles have in common is their gender (more than 90% men) not their occupation.
We are definately more careful when talking about religions that we don’t understand and are careful to be PC when talking in public.
Tebow lives his faith. More power to him.
exactly!!!!
Totally agree — just as tired of Christian bashing as I am of Muslim bashing.
But you are all missing the point. This guy can’t throw. His arm sucks, his decision making is terrible. If he were good, nobody would give him crap for his beliefs. The backlash against him is for the simple reason that his beliefs are the reason he’s talked about at all. If he were a run of the mill guy who dian’t make a big show of his faith on national tv, he would already have been forgotten. Yes he was great in college, in the SEC. Good for him. He might be great in the AFL, if he can swallow his (irony alert) sinful pride and accept the fact that he can not, will never, compete at the nfl level.
