Little Ferry NJ, It has been a harrowing 24 hours for first responders in Bergen County as two separate, destructive fires broke out in Little Ferry and Ridgefield Park, leaving homes in ruins and several communities on high alert.
From a suspected propane explosion to a multi-house inferno in the middle of the night, local fire departments have been pushed to their limits. Here is the latest on these developing stories.
Explosive Afternoon in Little Ferry: Propane Tank Suspected in Summit Circle Fire
Residents of Summit Circle in Little Ferry watched in horror at approximately 4:15 p.m. today as a fast-moving fire consumed one home and severely damaged a neighboring property.
Witnesses at the scene described an “inferno” that appeared to ignite on a back porch. While an official investigation is underway, neighbors believe a propane tank may have been the catalyst for the blaze.
The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department (HHFD), including Chief 61, 62, and Engine 2, arrived to find a “working fire” that required immediate containment to prevent a neighborhood-wide catastrophe. Miraculously, no injuries were reported in this incident, though the primary home was declared a total loss.
Pre-Dawn Chaos in Ridgefield Park: 2 Firefighters Injured, 3 Homes Damaged
This afternoon’s blaze followed a grueling early-morning battle in Ridgefield Park. At 2:38 a.m., units were dispatched to 193 Brinkerhoff St., where flames were already venting from the rear of the residence.
The scene was chaotic:
-
Vehicles Ablaze: Cars parked on both sides of the property were engulfed in flames.
-
Rapid Spread: The fire jumped to adjacent homes at 191 and 195 Brinkerhoff St., damaging walls and decks.
-
Massive Response: Fire crews from Teaneck, Hackensack, Little Ferry, and Englewood rushed to the scene to assist.
While all residents were safely evacuated, the physical toll on first responders was high. Two firefighters were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. The Ridgefield Park Bureau of Fire Prevention is currently investigating the cause of this multi-structure fire.
A Busy Day for Bergen County Fire Fighters
The timing of these events has placed an incredible strain on local resources. The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department noted that the Little Ferry call was their second working fire in just 12 hours.
As we head into the evening, fire officials are reminding residents to check their smoke detectors and practice caution with outdoor heating and cooking equipment.
