Leonia NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ANIBAL OYOLA (DOB: 6/09/1984; single; gymnastics instructor) of Leonia, NJ on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Leonia Police Department under the direction of Chief Scott Tamagny.
On Monday, August 7, 2023, the Leonia Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Leonia Police Department revealed that ANIBAL OYOLA sexually assaulted the child, who was under the age of 13, in Leonia, NJ on multiple occasions over the course of six months.
As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, ANIBAL OYOLA was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1); second-degree sexual assault by sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b; 4 counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). OYOLA was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Leonia Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
