Mahwah NJ, It isn’t every day that a community renames a piece of its landscape to honor a single individual. But after nearly four decades of unwavering dedication, the Township of Mahwah is doing exactly that to celebrate one of its most impactful public servants.
At the June 22 Township Council meeting, the Mayor and Council formally recognized Joanne Becker for an incredible 38 years of dedicated service to the municipality. As she officially begins her well-earned retirement, the town made sure her legacy would be visibly cemented into the community she helped build.
From Fire Department Secretary to Qualified Purchasing Agent
Joanne’s remarkable journey with the Township of Mahwah began all the way back in 1988. Over the next 38 years, her career became a masterclass in professional growth, leadership, and public service:
-
A Crucial First Responder Ally: For 35 years, Joanne served as the vital Secretary to the Mahwah Fire Department, supporting the local heroes who keep the community safe.
-
Advancing the Ranks: Driven by a powerful work ethic, she continually advanced her career, ultimately stepping into the complex and highly essential role of the Township’s Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA) on July 1, 2018.
Throughout her tenure, Joanne’s integrity and meticulous attention to detail kept Mahwah’s municipal operations running smoothly, directly impacting the quality of daily services enjoyed by thousands of local residents.
Driving Past History: “Joanne Becker Way”
To truly encapsulate what her career has meant to the municipality, the Township Council unanimously approved a special tribute: the installation of an honorary street sign, “Joanne Becker Way,” on Corporate Drive.
The commemorative sign will stand proudly on Corporate Drive for one year. Afterward, it will be carefully uninstalled and presented directly to Joanne as a permanent, historic keepsake of her exceptional decades of service.
On behalf of the Mayor, Township Council, municipal coworkers, and the countless neighbors she assisted over the last 38 years, we thank Joanne Becker and wish her a retirement filled with optimal health, endless happiness, and brilliant new adventures!
