Word is the fire was cause by two overheating Lithium-ion batteries ,in tow e-scooters :

Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in electric scooters and various other electronic devices, have revolutionized portable power storage due to their high energy density and rechargeable nature. However, like any power source, lithium-ion batteries do come with certain risks and potential dangers. Here are a few key considerations regarding the danger of lithium-ion batteries in electric scooters:

  1. Thermal Runaway: One of the primary concerns with lithium-ion batteries is the potential for thermal runaway, which refers to a rapid and uncontrolled increase in battery temperature. Thermal runaway can be caused by various factors such as overcharging, physical damage, manufacturing defects, or exposure to high temperatures. In extreme cases, it can lead to the battery catching fire or exploding. Although the occurrence of such incidents is relatively rare, it is essential to handle and use lithium-ion batteries correctly to minimize the risk.
  2. Charging and Storage Safety: Proper charging and storage practices are crucial for ensuring the safety of lithium-ion batteries. Overcharging, using incompatible chargers, or leaving the battery connected to the charger for an extended period can increase the risk of overheating and damage to the battery. It is advisable to use the charger provided by the manufacturer and follow the recommended charging instructions. Additionally, storing lithium-ion batteries in extreme temperatures or exposing them to moisture can also lead to performance degradation or safety hazards.
  3. Quality and Manufacturing: The quality and manufacturing standards of lithium-ion batteries can vary across different brands and manufacturers. Lower-quality batteries may be more prone to defects, including issues with the internal structure or inadequate protection mechanisms. It is advisable to purchase electric scooters from reputable manufacturers and ensure that the battery meets recognized safety standards.
  4. Impact and Physical Damage: Physical damage to lithium-ion batteries, such as from accidents, drops, or impacts, can compromise their integrity and safety. If the battery casing is breached, it increases the risk of short circuits and thermal runaway. Proper care and maintenance, such as avoiding rough handling or subjecting the scooter to unnecessary shocks, can help mitigate this risk.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Electric scooters, including their lithium-ion batteries, should comply with relevant safety standards and regulations established by authorities in different regions. These regulations often address safety requirements for battery design, construction, labeling, and transportation. It is important to ensure that the electric scooters and batteries meet the necessary compliance standards to minimize potential dangers.

To mitigate the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, it is crucial to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for charging, usage, and storage. Regularly inspect the scooter and its battery for any signs of damage or abnormalities, and discontinue use if any concerns arise. Additionally, staying informed about battery safety best practices and being aware of any product recalls or safety alerts issued by the manufacturer or regulatory bodies can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience with electric scooters.
