Mahwah NJ, the Mahwah Republican Club recognized four recipients of a scholarship offered by the Club at a recent meeting.
The students are graduating seniors who live in Mahwah. (L. to R.) Benjamin Garcia, a graduate of Don Bosco Prep, who will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, was awarded $1,000. The other recipients are graduates of Mahwah High School: Bobby Politis received $500 and will attend Colgate University; and tied for the third-place award of $250 each are Peter Kaya Gretchikha (kneeling) who will attend Purdue University and Ryan Matthews who will attend the University of Tennessee. With the students are (L. to R.) Robert Lockwood, a Club trustee who created the scholarship program, Mahwah Republican Club President Frank Pallotta and Josephine Carapezza, DDS, a member of the Scholarship Committee and an ardent donor to the program.
The students submitted 1,000-word essays addressing the theme “In this election year what are the top three challenges the president will face and how do they rectify it?” Each year the Club hosts a beefsteak dinner to raise money to fund the scholarships. Through the generosity of its supporters the Mahwah Republican Club was able to increase the dollar amount awarded to the recipients. The Club is a group of township residents who share a mutual love of America and a strong belief in the founding principles of our nation.
