Mail Thieves Apprehended in Upper Saddle River

Upper Saddle River Nj, according to Upper Saddle River Police ,on Friday, July 1st at approximately 10 AM, a twenty-two year old male from Columbia, Maryland, and a 25 year-old male from Newburgh, New York, were stopped on Weiss Road. Further investigation revealed the males possessed stolen mail from nearby Bergen County towns. It is believed they were traveling the streets of Upper Saddle River to commit further acts of mail theft. Both suspects were arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy to Commit Theft. Both were released on their own recognizance.

Mail theft continues to frequently occur throughout Bergen County. The perpetrators most often target outgoing mail containing handwritten checks. The stolen checks are then altered and deposited into fraudulently purchased or opened checking accounts. Incoming mail containing credit cards and identifying documents are also targets. Please continue to report any suspicious activity to the Upper Saddle River Police Department.
An important reminder: The suspects in these mail theft cases along with the continued incidents of vehicle theft and vehicle burglary, often have a history of violence and/or weapon possession. Please do not confront these individuals.

  1. Absolutely ridiculous to just let these guys go on their own recognizance. You think they’ll ever be seen again? We are just too soft on criminals.
