HACKENSACK, NJ — A bizarre morning commute incident drew a quick response from local emergency crews after a vehicle caught fire near a major city intersection—leaving bystanders wondering how the car ended up in the wrong lane of traffic.
According to an official update from the City of Hackensack Fire Department, the incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Members of the department’s 4th Platoon were dispatched to the busy intersection of Anderson Street and River Street following reports of an active vehicle fire.

Quick Action Prevents Further Danger
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Oddly, the vehicle had come to a stop facing the wrong direction in an oncoming lane of traffic.
Thanks to the rapid mobilization of Hackensack’s 4th Platoon, the fire was quickly extinguished and thoroughly overhauled, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby utility lines or surrounding vehicles.

Local authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the driver to cross over into the incorrect lane of traffic before the vehicle caught fire, or whether any medical emergencies or mechanical failures precipitated the crash. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The response highlighted the seamless coordination of local emergency teams, including Hackensack Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2081 and Hackensack Fire Officers IAFF Local 3172, who worked quickly to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow to the busy intersection.
