Bogota NJ, Commuters on East Main Street were met with flashing lights and sirens early this morning as emergency crews responded to a serious structure fire in the heart of Bogota.

At 7:45 AM, the Bogota Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival, Deputy 1 reported heavy smoke pouring from a second-story apartment located directly above a local mechanic shop, immediately upgrading the call to a “Working Fire.”
A Rapid Response and Narrow Escape
The tight-knit coordination of Bergen County’s first responders was on full display as crews moved to save the building and its occupants:
-
Interior Attack: Engine 1 crews stretched a hose line to the second floor, facing heavy fire conditions upon entry.
-
Search and Rescue: While Engine 1 battled the flames, Ladder 1 was already inside, performing a primary search to ensure no residents were trapped.
-
Casualties: Three individuals were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by emergency medical personnel. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported.
The Power of Mutual Aid
The fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the seamless integration of several neighboring departments. Extensive “overhaul”—the process of opening walls and ceilings to check for hidden fire—was performed with assistance from:
-
Hackensack Ladder 1
-
Teaneck Squad 23
-
Ridgefield Park Truck 2
-
Englewood FD (Serving as the Rapid Intervention Team)
While crews operated on East Main Street, other mutual aid partners stood by at the Broad Street Firehouse to ensure the rest of the town remained covered for additional emergencies.
Investigation Underway
The Bogota Fire Prevention Bureau is currently investigating the cause of the fire. As of now, it is unclear if the fire originated in the residential unit or was related to the commercial shop below.
Incidents like these serve as a vital reminder for residents living in mixed-use buildings to ensure their smoke detectors are functional and that they have a clear escape plan.
