Carlstadt NJ, on Monday evening, a house fire broke out at 618 First Street in Carlstadt, leaving significant damage to the home and an adjacent garage. The fire prompted a swift response from the Carlstadt Fire Department, with mutual aid provided by the Wood-Ridge and Hasbrouck Heights Fire Departments.
The Fire was reported in a 911 call 830 pm approximately. Police officers in Carlstadt rescued three people from a burning house fire. As Carlstadt Fire Fighters worked the scene fire escalated and a second alarm at 8:39 PM, Wood-Ridge Fire Department responded to the scene with Chief Meglio, Chief Cribben, Truck 904, and Rescue 903. Their team worked diligently alongside Carlstadt firefighters to extinguish the flames in the primary residence and the nearby garage. By 10:00 PM, all Wood-Ridge units returned to their station.
The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department also played a crucial role, with Chiefs 60, 61, 62, and Ladder 1 arriving to serve as the FAST (Firefighter Assist and Search Team). Ladder 1 crews checked for fire extensions on the second floor of the residence, ensuring the blaze was fully contained.
The fire caused extensive damage to the home, leaving parts of the second floor visibly charred and other sections boarded up. Mutual aid from neighboring departments helped Carlstadt responders prevent further spread.
According to a family member on the scene the following morning, three residents managed to escape the fire. Unfortunately, one woman sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Her condition remains unknown.
Both the Wood-Ridge and Hasbrouck Heights Fire Departments were praised for their coordinated efforts and teamwork. Deputy Chief Cribben commended all responders, saying, “Great job to the Carlstadt Fire Department and the mutual aid teams for their outstanding collaboration.”
House fires are devastating events that test the strength of local communities and their first responders. Thanks to the quick and coordinated response by Carlstadt, Wood-Ridge, and Hasbrouck Heights fire departments, a potentially more severe tragedy was averted.
