Ridgewood NJ, on Tuesday, AT&T and Verizon customers across the United States reported difficulties in contacting users of other wireless carriers. Both companies acknowledged the problem and are actively working to resolve it.
AT&T’s Response
AT&T took to X (formerly known as Twitter) at around 4 p.m. to address the issue:
“There is a nationwide issue that is affecting the ability of customers to complete calls between carriers,” AT&T announced. They assured users that they are working diligently to “diagnose and resolve the issue.”
Federal Communications Commission Involvement
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) also acknowledged the problem. At approximately 5:30 p.m., the FCC tweeted:
“We’re aware of reports that consumers in multiple states are unable to make wireless calls and we are currently investigating.”
Verizon’s Statement
Verizon updated its outage page to inform customers:
“Some customers, primarily in the Northeast and Midwest, are experiencing issues when calling or texting with customers served by another carrier. We are continuing to monitor the situation.”
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks user-reported outages, there were over 2,500 reports of issues from Verizon customers and over 3,000 from AT&T customers late Tuesday afternoon. An attempted call from a Verizon user to an AT&T user resulted in a message saying, “Your call cannot be completed as dialed.”

As AT&T and Verizon work to resolve these connectivity issues, customers are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and social media for further information and progress reports.
