Ridgewood NJ, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has officially updated its transgender student-athlete policy, barring trans “women” from competing in women’s sports. The decision, announced Thursday, comes just one day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to defund schools that allow trans women to participate in women’s athletic competitions.

What Does the New NCAA Transgender Policy Say?

The updated policy prohibits trans women—those assigned male at birth—from competing in women’s sports. However, they may still practice with women’s teams and receive team benefits, including medical care.

Key details of the policy:

  • Trans women may not compete in NCAA women’s sports.
  • Men’s teams remain open to all athletes, regardless of gender identity.
  • Athletes taking testosterone (whether assigned male or female at birth) must go through a medical exemption process to compete in men’s sports.
  • Students assigned female at birth who undergo hormone therapy or take testosterone are also barred from competing in women’s sports.

Previously, the NCAA followed Olympic guidelines, allowing each sport’s national governing body to determine eligibility for trans athletes. That 2022 policy has now been replaced by a universal NCAA-wide ban.

Why Did the NCAA Change Its Policy?

NCAA President Charlie Baker cited the need for uniform eligibility standards over a “patchwork of conflicting state laws and court decisions.”

“The NCAA is an organization made up of 1,100 colleges and universities in all 50 states that collectively enroll more than 530,000 student-athletes. We strongly believe that clear, consistent, and uniform eligibility standards would best serve today’s student-athletes instead of a patchwork of conflicting state laws and court decisions. To that end, President Trump’s order provides a clear, national standard.”

Baker also stated in December Senate testimony that fewer than 10 transgender student-athletes currently compete in NCAA sports.

Trump’s Executive Orders on Gender and Trans Rights

This move aligns with Trump’s recent executive orders regarding gender policies:

  • Defunding Schools That Allow Trans Women in Women’s Sports – Schools that permit trans women to compete in women’s athletics will lose federal funding.
  • Defining Gender as Strictly Binary – Trump’s administration has declared that there are only two sexes, rejecting the concept of self-assessed gender identity.
  • Banning Transgender Military Service – Trump reinstated a ban on openly transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military.

Transgender Athletes and Advocates Speak Out

Chris Mosier, a transgender triathlete and trans rights advocate, criticized the new policy, saying it:

  • Erases nonbinary and intersex identities by focusing solely on “sex assigned at birth.”
  • Fails to account for intersex athletes and women who take hormone therapy for medical reasons, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

“It is mirroring the executive orders of the president in trying to legislate away trans and nonbinary identities.”

LGBTQ+ Advocacy Groups Condemn the Policy

GLAAD, a leading LGBTQ+ rights organization, called the move “deeply disturbing”, arguing that it:

  • Lacks medical and scientific backing that previously shaped NCAA policy.
  • Threatens the safety and inclusion of all student-athletes.
  • Caves to political pressure rather than prioritizing the well-being of student-athletes.

“It is also premature and purely a response from the inaccurate and incoherent rhetoric from the Trump White House and its attempt to intimidate educational institutions.”

What’s Next for Transgender Athletes?

The NCAA’s decision marks a significant shift in collegiate sports, aligning with broader efforts by Trump’s administration to regulate gender identity policies. The change is expected to spark legal challenges and ongoing debate among athletes, advocacy groups, and educational institutions.

  1. Well done. Oh, and how come we never see female to male trans athletes in professional sports? Could it be that they would come dead last in competitions? No, we only get the other way around where average males become females and start shattering records.

    1. #1) Women are not stupid. They’d never willing give up their “but I’m just a girl” privilege that gets them out of everything.

#2) It’s impossible to grow a schwing-schwang but you can cut one off.

#3) The overall idea is to compromise men. Women are already captured and do what Big Daddy Gov tells them to.

  2. Where is all the OUTRAGE?

I thought Trans was FACT and SCIENCE ?

Where are all of the Trans champions of last year ?

Why are they not outraged ?

    >b?If these Trans people were ACTUALLY women there would be a HUGE UPROR from all of the Trans champions.

Just replace “Transgender” with any other adjective and the outrage would be huge
    Examples:
    NCAA Bans Black women,
    NCAA bans Short Women
    NCAA bans Blonde Women
    NCAA bans Heavy Women
NCAA bans … well you get it.

    NO OUTRAGE over Trans ban???

Thats because EVERYONE KNOWS (even last year’s vocal Transgender proponents) that Trans Women are NOT women… they are MEN.
