Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey’s Film and TV Tax incentive programs have proven to be a resounding success, backed by concrete figures.

In the first half of 2023, #NJFilm hosted an impressive $550 million in film production activities, providing employment to over 8,500 individuals. The state was poised to surpass its record-breaking 2022 figures for film production if not for the disruptions caused by strikes from the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild, which halted production for several months from spring through fall.

To provide context, in 2017, film production in Jersey amounted to a modest $67 million. However, following the enactment of the Garden State Film and Digital Media Jobs Act by Gov. Phil Murphy in 2018, which reinstated state film tax credits, the industry witnessed a remarkable upswing. By 2019, Jersey’s film production had soared to nearly $422 million. This upward trajectory continued with $500 million in 2021 and a record-breaking high of almost $702 million in 2022.

Here are some examples:
Oppenheimer – spent over $4 million
Eileen – spent $11.6 million
A Murder At The End of The World – spent $72.8 million
The Walking Dead: Dead City & The Walking Dead: The Ones That Lived – spent $58 million
Mean Girls: The Musical – spent $35 milllion
Shelter – spent $50 million
I Saw The TV Glow – spent $7 million
