Newark NJ, New Jersey Transit Police Arrest Man and Seize Handguns, Ammunition, Following Foot Pursuit.

Newark, N.J. – The New Jersey Transit Police have arrested Curtis Gartrell, 41, of Marion, OH. and seized handguns, ammunition, illegal drugs and over two thousand dollars in US currency.

On Wednesday, November 6, at 4:53 p.m., Sergeant Rose Minoughan was approached by a greyhound bus passenger who claimed to be the victim of an assault. The passenger had visible signs of injury and identified Mr. Gartrell as the actor who assaulted him. Officers Timothy Griffin, Brian Rea, Adam Konopka and Thomas Dietze responded to investigate. During the investigation, Mr. Gartrell was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He fled from officers on foot and was successfully apprehended. Officers subsequently recovered (2) 9mm handguns, 86 rounds of ammunition, marijuana and suspected crystal methamphetamine.

Mr. Gartrell was charged with multiple offenses including weapons possession, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of a high capacity magazine, certain persons not to have weapons and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending a bail detention hearing.

Charges are mere accusations and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
