Newark NJ, New Jersey Transit Police Outreach Officers met a stranded family with a baby. The family was far from home in a time of need. Their destination was 2,000+ miles away; and they were at Newark Penn Station. Lacking shelter, funds for travel and food, the family was in a rough spot.
The outreach officers and staff from the Arrive Together Program sought a way to help. They reached out to the Bridges Outreach Program and shared the details. The program agreed to assist, and the officers transported the family to the Bridges facility. The compassionate people at Bridges ensured the family’s travel tickets were obtained free of charge and they were provided with baby formula, diapers, and food expenses for the long travel period. The family then returned to Penn Station to make their way home.
Officer Hooks is pictured feeding the baby so that mom could take a moment to rest. This story is a reminder that our police officers are more than just enforcers of the law and there are still kind people ( Bridges Outreach, Inc. ) who strive to make a difference!
