New Milford Man Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault at Riverside Square Mall

Hackensack NJ, a New Milford man, Craig L. Herbert, 30, has been arrested on charges of attempted sexual assault following an incident at Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack on Thursday.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Hackensack Police Department conducted an investigation leading to Herbert’s arrest. He faces charges of attempted sexual assault, criminal restraint, criminal sexual contact, and simple assault, as announced by the prosecutor’s office on Saturday.

The incident, which occurred Thursday evening, was reported to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit by the Hackensack Police Department on Friday.

“An unknown suspect followed the adult female victim into a women’s restroom in the mall, whereupon he shoved the victim to the floor and attempted to sexually assault her,” stated the prosecutor’s office in a press release.

The victim fought off her attacker and called 911. Surveillance footage captured the suspect fleeing the scene, aiding in the investigation.

Herbert was arrested on Friday and charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault, third-degree criminal restraint, fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, and the disorderly persons offense of simple assault.

He was taken to the Bergen County jail and is awaiting his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

  1. Why no mugshot or racial description..oh he must not be black..usually your reporters always 99 per cent of the time in news articles I read always identify a black suspect even if there’s no mugshot..
