Ridgewood NJ, according to pedestrian safety activist Frank Geraghty , “Most towns in Bergen county have less neglected traffic problems than the Village of Ridgewood which I have observed and written about many times. Recently while out walking on East Ridgewood avenue as I turned into Broad street I stopped abruptly as I saw a newly erected misplaced traffic sign which stuck out like a sore thumb on the sidewalk outside of Patchi Alotchi. The sign which was located five and a half feet from curb near middle of sidewalk had a sign informing motorist of a nearby KIOSK which was at the curb where the new sign should have been placed.  A local worker who saw me photographing and measuring the sidewalk told me about an incident he witnessed recently when one child chasing after his big brother smashed into this badly placed sign near middle of sidewalk. The village worker who just recently installed this sign at the center of a newly sprayed circle near the middle of the sidewalk was just following recent orders from someone in the village who spray painted the white circle which is clearly seen at bottom of sign in photo. A few minutes later as I was leaving I walked around the corner to E Ridgewood avenue and photographed a similar but very discreetly placed sign next to kiosk which was close to curb located outside ENVY store.

SOLUTION—-Move misplaced sign next to kiosk which is located at curbstone. Enclosed photos show the RIGHT way and WRONG careless way to install sidewalk signs.”
Geraghty  continue ,”Another problem that also exists at Broad street relates to west bound traffic on East Ridgewood avenue which have the right of way entering Broad street, because of this motorists act like bullies challenging vehicular traffic coming from three directions. This is a unique small and always crowded intersection with cars and pedestrians and much busier than most in the village.
SOLUTION—A YIELD SIGN for west bound traffic at Ridgewood avenue entering Broad street intersection should be placed next to ancient faded “no parking” signs which should be immediately replaced. This would slow down impatient west bound motorists and force all motorists  to respect each other in this very busy intersection which everyone will agree is always packed with pedestrians and vehicles.”
Geraghty also added the following Tidbit………… “since we got two new Parking Enforcement Officers in the village I recently observed that multiple tickets on illegally parked cars in “two hour parking zones ” ISN’T THIS  A  LITTLE OVERKILL.”

  1. For years and years we heard about the need for a parking garage.
We were told the garage was part of a “parking system” that included the entire CBD.
The garage was to be paid for by parking fees within the CBD.
Rejoice! You got your parking garage.
Now start to pay for it. (except on Saturday nights between 6 and 8)

  2. Frank should take up Mah Jong or something…

  3. You had one job…

  4. That is right in the middle of the sidewalk.

Self remedy…paint it orange so that it stands out.

Whistleblower Guy better get on the stick !

    1. Whistleblower Guy is too busy covering up for our wonderful Mayor and all his shenanigans

  5. Peter Primavera is a certified sign placement expert. Let’s ask him.

  6. There will be zero consequences for this, misconduct, neglect of duty or malfeasance, incompetency, inefficiency, failure to perform duties, inability to perform duties, insubordination, neglect of duty, chronic or excessive unexcused absence or lateness…just ask the Village Engineer-leading by example.

  7. they will blame it on “climate change”

    1. …or Racism

  8. Why is Ridgewood hiring idiots? We used to hjave a well run town with community minded people. That is why homes were in demand and businesses wanted to locate here. Why is the new regime trying to ruin the town with unnecessary sports complexes and signs possibly causing injury and lawsuits?

    1. You get what you pay for!

    2. Because it used to be a village and now it is turning into a city which means people don’t feel attached so much emotionally or simply said they don’t give a r@ts @ss. I was fanatic in following things to the dot and attending village sessions and keeping informed about everything going on but now I really do not care anymore. If residents vote for biden, murphy, vag, weitz, winograd etc. in droves I won’t waste my voice anymore. It is simply hopeless and I have become totally indifferent.

  9. Put one of the new garbage cans in front of it…

  10. LoL, isn’t there a mount for a sign on the Kiosk itself?!?!

  11. I can support Frank’s comment about two tickets in a 2 hour zone. It happened to me and I thought it was over the top.
I think we should put Frank on the payroll since the town is doing nothing

  12. We got trouble right here in River City….!

  13. Who cares anymore, screw it.

  14. Looking at the big picture, this matter is insignificant. This is not the issue to build a case that our town is run by incompetent managers and politician. I would suggest that the high level of taxes and the low level of service is basis for any protest, outrage, and umbrage. Our tax dollars paid for that sign’s placement. Like the garage, was it necessary in the first place?

  15. This is article worthy?

    1. its called gross incompetence, most likely the idiot “village engineer”

  16. the Village has been run like crap for over 20 years , this used to be a great town

  17. This looks like a job for Lucas ‘Luke’ Jackson…
