The Ridgewood Public Schools district has hired a manager of information technology. Ryan Kenny was hired effective Sept. 23, “or earlier if possible,” at a salary of $130,000.

According to the position’s job description, Kenny, who is currently the Westwood Regional School District’s technology coordinator, will serve as the “chief information officer for the district,” providing “leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the district’s information technology (IT) plans.”

This includes assisting staff in managing cross-curricular technology instruction and district-wide technology infrastructure – “file servers, mail server, domain controllers, wireless networks, storage area network, backups, switch configurations, mail archives, firewalls, spam filtering, anti-virus, printing” and other software and devices.

  1. Sounds like a highly technical PR guy to me. Wearing many hats.

  2. It’s a tough job. Probably minimal staff but loads of consultants.

  3. Hopefully he knows that confusing the end used is not the same as having a secure system. The password craziness must stop! Too many passwords and they are changed too often. I have a few online investment and bank accounts and they are much easier to work with.

An employee told me that the system works because no one has hacked the system. I told her that the hackers are looking for information and money, two things that the Ridgewood Education website do not have. The hackers cannot be bothered with the Ridgewood school system.

  4. #3 didn’t you see Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
