Hampton Township NJ, on January 19, 2024, at approximately 5:44 p.m., troopers from Troop “B” Sussex responded to a hunting accident at the Pequest Wildlife Management Area in Hampton Township, Sussex County.
Upon arrival, troopers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound from a shotgun. The troopers quickly initiated life-saving measures, applying tourniquets and chest seals. After stabilizing the victim, troopers carried the victim approximately 200 yards to an open area where a State Police Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) awaited.
Due to challenging terrain and weather, the troopers used the UTV to transport the victim to the awaiting ambulance. The victim was then taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
