On Tuesday, April 16, at 9:44 p.m., NJTPD officers at Trenton Station responded to cries for help coming from a private bus carrier. The officers then observed a small child being carried. The child was choking with an obstructed airway. The officers began administering CPR but the object was not dislodged. Visibly, the unresponsive child began turning blue due to lack of oxygen.
Realizing the immediate need for medical attention, K9 Officer Geoghegan used his K9 vehicle to transport the child to the hospital. Sergeant Filandro continued CPR during transport. Following Sergeant Filandro’s continued efforts and words of encouragement, the child began to breathe.
An excellent job and a young life saved by New Jersey Transit Police Officers! Today we salute each officer involved. This includes Lieutenant Mark Frenzel, Sergeant Michael Filandro, Officer Roberto Tavares, Officer Michael Virag, and K9 Officer Timothy Geoghegan.
Portions of the included body worn camera footage have been redacted to respect the privacy of the child.
