Ridgewood NJ, The New Jersey Division of Elections wishes to remind citizens of the upcoming deadline to register to vote for the upcoming primary election ahead of the June 5 primary election.
The deadline to register to vote in the June 5 primary election is Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Applications are available at county and municipal offices as well as online at the Division of Elections website: nj.gov/state/elections.
The voter registration applications downloaded from the website must be mailed to the County Commissioner of Registration/Superintendent of Elections in the resident’s home county or to the Division of Elections, as an original signature is required. Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked by May 15.
To register to vote in New Jersey you must be: a United States citizen, at least 17 years old, and understand that you may not vote until reaching the age of 18, a resident of the county for 30 days before the election and you are not currently serving a sentence, probation or parole because of a felony conviction.
New Jersey’s primary election law allows unaffiliated voters to select a party when voting in the Primary Election. However, voters registered as Democrats can only vote in the Democratic primary and voters registered as Republicans can only vote in the Republican primary.

This is our second forum designed to engage in a dialogue with business owners. We want to communicate the various initiatives we have undertaken and hear directly from you: challenges you are facing; opportunities that stand before us; success stories; suggestions for improving our Central Business District.
The Central Business District Advisory Committee (CBDAC), created in 2016, is comprised of volunteers representing a cross-section of our community: residents, business owners, commercial property owners, and members of the Village management team. CBDAC works with the Village Council, business owners, and residents to identify short and long-term challenges faced by the Central Business District and then evaluate relevant factors to make recommendations to the Village Council to enhance and improve the viability of the CBD, including beautification, parking, pedestrian safety, and the balance of commercial uses, to create a more desirable, vibrant, and memorable destination for all visitors.

Ridgewood NJ, The Senate Transportation Committee passed legislation sponsored by Senator Gerry Cardinale (R-39) which encourages the federal government to assist with implementing Positive Train Control (PTC) technology on New Jersey railways.

“By repeatedly underfunding large scale train safety projects, Congress is placing the lives of New Jerseyans at risk,” Cardinale said. “With technological advances that remove human error, such as positive train control, we are able to safeguard passengers and our communities from future train derailments and crashes.”
Positive Train Control (PTC) is a safety system designed to automatically stop a train. It has the ability to prevent accidents like collisions and derailments by slowing the train without input from an engineer on board, removing the possible human error.
On average, 2 million passengers are transported by NJ Transit’s train and light rail systems each week.
Cardinale’s legislation, SJR-12, urges the federal government to take decisive and swift measures to assist with the implementation of positive train control technology on New Jersey railways.
Additionally, the bill requests, if necessary, to extend the deadline for the installation of positive train control technology.
As of December 31, 2017, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) noted in a letter to NJ Transit that the FRA was concerned that NJ Transit would not meet the December 31, 2018 deadline. NJ Transit has only installed required hardware on 35 of the 440 locomotives in the NJ Transit fleet and had only trained 143 of 1,100 employees on the new system.
“We pay a high price by failing to implement this lifesaving train technology, as we saw with the crash in Hoboken,” Cardinale added. “Today, we continue our efforts to encourage Congress to deliver the necessary funding to provide the safest ride possible for our commuters. ”
The legislation now heads to the full Senate for a vote.

He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and is a USDA accredited veterinarian. Dr. Giammanco has grown up with pets all his life ranging from dogs and cats to fish and rats, and currently lives in a household with four beagles. His interests include anything involving the outdoors like camping, fishing, and hiking, sports such as football, soccer, and racquetball, and other hobbies such as archery, cooking, and carpentry. “

Ridgewood NJ, One (1) person was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital following a two (2) vehicle collision at the intersection of Grove Street and South Pleasant Avenue, Ridgewood, late Thursday evening, 05/10. Both damaged vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Ridgewood PD and EMS responded.
Ridgewood NJ, Team clean up removing Knudsen-Sedon lawn signs! They also want to thank EVERYONE who shared a little patch of green for the team! Deputy Mayor Mike Sedon was making the rounds yesterday picking up the yard signs .
Volunteers for the Knudsen & Sedon team are now canvassing the Village to recover Knudsen & Sedon campaign signs. All recovered signs will be sent to a recycling facility.
I saw the incident being referred to on the Blog. It was Rurik once again who instigated the encounter and it was Ms.Gruber trying to defend herself against his wild rantings. She also tried to insert some common sense and he was not having it as usual. Others of us tried also. It is interesting to note that none of the Harwin and Willett supporters showed up on election night and no one came to the council meeting last night for the Gay Pride proclamation. This campaign on one side only was terrible and divisive. I’m not over it because now I see even more clearly the harm they have caused in order to win at all costs.
Ellie Gruber has more intelligence, class and dignity in one pinky finger than Rurik Halaby has in his enter body. She is an enormous asset to Ridgewood; Habably not so much. If you were in the room that night, you would have seen Rurik Halaby go after Ellie Gruber and you would have seen Mrs. Gruber stand her ground.

I wish to extend my congratulations to Mayor Susan Knudsen on her re-election to the Ridgewood Village Council, as I applaud the commitment and devotion to Ridgewood of all the candidates for council.
We have concluded a hard-fought municipal election campaign where the best of civic duty was at times marred by harsh accusations and allegations, and even by reference to Nazi imagery.
We deplore all hateful language whether it be racist, sexist or anti-LGBTQ, anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim or anti-Catholic.
While we may not always be immune from such discourse in our village, we do have the opportunity to rise above it and close ranks while we work toward our common interests.
Mayor Knudsen has been a friend to the Jewish community. I look forward to continuing to work with her in securing Ridgewood’s values as a village committed to all of its citizens, their rights, their freedoms and their dignity.

That has no ;place in American . It does in the Third Reich. And I just read that a swastika was put on a door in Ridgewood. Was that you.?”

so someone puts out outrageous smears in an attempt to win a campaign. People are disgusted, fired up and fight back against such disgusting mudslinging. You are upset over the fight back but not the disgusting lies and smears that provoked such reactions? That’s weird. Ellie is a badass for confronting such disgusting mudslinging. I’d take her side any day. Using Nazi parallels, lies and more lies that attack a candidate and her family and you expect defenders to not react is naive and frankly, ridiculous. If someone attacked you, or someone you love, so publicly in efforts to win a council seat you wouldn’t fight back? I would, fiercely- People are ridiculous when they say both sides were ugly/negative, I call bs, it was one side. Thank goodness there was a fight to push back on this crap. Today, if you don’t fight back people assume there is truth in those lies, you have to defend yourself. I still hope Susan files a lawsuit against Hans for defamation and, I hope he hires Voigt to represent him, lol. People need to stop acting like Harwin, Willett and their supporters were victims, they knew darn well what kind of campaign they ran and if it got them votes, so be it, it’s politics. Says a lot about their character. Call me crazy, but a rabbi’s wife participating in such a filthy campaign, was disgusting. I expected better, nothing to be proud of the way they campaigned.
