so someone puts out outrageous smears in an attempt to win a campaign. People are disgusted, fired up and fight back against such disgusting mudslinging. You are upset over the fight back but not the disgusting lies and smears that provoked such reactions? That’s weird. Ellie is a badass for confronting such disgusting mudslinging. I’d take her side any day. Using Nazi parallels, lies and more lies that attack a candidate and her family and you expect defenders to not react is naive and frankly, ridiculous. If someone attacked you, or someone you love, so publicly in efforts to win a council seat you wouldn’t fight back? I would, fiercely- People are ridiculous when they say both sides were ugly/negative, I call bs, it was one side. Thank goodness there was a fight to push back on this crap. Today, if you don’t fight back people assume there is truth in those lies, you have to defend yourself. I still hope Susan files a lawsuit against Hans for defamation and, I hope he hires Voigt to represent him, lol. People need to stop acting like Harwin, Willett and their supporters were victims, they knew darn well what kind of campaign they ran and if it got them votes, so be it, it’s politics. Says a lot about their character. Call me crazy, but a rabbi’s wife participating in such a filthy campaign, was disgusting. I expected better, nothing to be proud of the way they campaigned.
The Harwin-Fabricant family has NOTHING to be proud of in the nasty, smear-filled campaign they ran. Disgusted by both of them. Including the good rabbi photographing the home of one of Susan and Mike’s supporters like some sort of undercover operative. So happy they lost. Now I hope they move. And for the sake of the temple in Washington Township, I hope they move far away.
There was no moral equivalence, or should I say “immoral equivalence” between what Harwin and her supporters said about the Mayor, and how she defended herself. Voigt writes on Harwin’s page :
“Ali-you should be very proud of your campaign and how you ran it. Very impressive. It was a pleasure getting to know you. I imagine I will be hearing more of you and your accomplishments as time goes by.” Does that mean we’ll be seeing more Nazi references and the Parkland images?
For posterity, I’ve screenshotted the 12 other people who complimented her campaign on FB.
they already started …..
Although Fort Lee is in Bergen Cty, what you saw here was Hudson County politics….anything goes, nothing is sacred.
A Condo on the Upper West Side of Manhattan would be a nice home… close to Dr Mom and Dr Dad, surrounded by trial lawyers and free from provincial minds like ours.
Hatred has no place in our town, and I am appalled by the hatred that Harwin unleashed in her campaign. More appalled, however, that so many bought into it. I keep asking myself why? Is it the new age of politics where, even on a local level, we forgive candidates for such nasty and negative campaigning?
Jan Phillips and Siobhan Winofrad are the queens of Hatred Has No Home Here. And they supported Harwin. Wow
I also couldn’t believe that anyone with a prominent religious connection could reduce herself to crawling on her stomach like the snake that enticed Adam and Eve. How can she be respected by her temple? I am afraid that the filth will continue until the next election when she may try again. Fortunately the majority of Ridgewood voters were able to see that she expressed nothing but lies and misconceptions and absolutely nothing about why she wanted the position and what she hoped to accomplish for Ridgewood.
Voigt congratulated Harwin and Willett on their campaign. Isn’t that just Jeff Voigt to the nth degree?!
The biggest lie in that mailer is the word “our”: “our reputation,” “our elected officials.” Ms. Harwin, you have managed in the space of a few months to alienate almost everyone worth knowing in your new town. I was similarly offended by the flier that said Ridgewood was your “home town.” Not even close. Please go away. Even your horrible supporters didn’t show up to console you for your election loss. It won’t be easy for you here socially now. Best to fold up the old tents.
