Reader says Ridgewood BOE Needs to regain Public Trust

414kh6Q 2HL

” Ridgewood school district is great, but recent increases in Budget driven by employee medical benefits and special ed. Meanwhile school rankings are dropping compared to competitors.
I know very little about educating kids except that it’s an extremely tough job. However I do know quite a bit about budgeting. It’s imperative to always question how $ is spent, otherwise it will be spent with less care than warranted. Voting no therefore makes sense in this case, as the board did not address concerns posed above.
Many parents defend the educators by questioning the no vote, but this is not a educators vs parents story. Rather it’s an action point for BoE to regain public trust by acknowledging raised issues and proposing solutions. I doubt there’s a resident who wishes bad upon our great educators, so let’s not confuse the issues. “

Reader says , “We have reluctantly decided to give up on Ridgewood”

for sale Ridgewood_Real_Estate_theRodgewopodblog

“Well after almost 30 years in town and countless hours of debate we have reluctantly decided to give up on RW. We raised our children here, made some good friends, and enjoy many aspects of the area. But the village has just sucked every bit of tolerance from us. Property taxes north of $40,000 that will never go down, parking rates that are just ridiculous, can’t water the lawn, rampant nepotism and weak selfish leaders, an awful expensive commute to NYC, and a $111,000,000 school budget have combined to drive us out. All of this with NJ state seeming to do everything it can to also drive people out.

Anyone looking for a nice house on the west side let us know. Wish all well”

Link to 2019-2020 budget and voting information

The following column appeared in The Ridgewood News on March 29, 2019.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019 the Ridgewood community will be asked to vote on the Ridgewood Public Schools 2019-2020 school budget as proposed by the Board of Education. The change back to public voting on the school budget occurred in July of 2018 when the Ridgewood Village Council opted to move the Ridgewood Board of Education School Election from November to April.

It is important to note that this year the election falls within the school district’s April break. For this reason, we are making a special effort to inform residents of the option of voting by mail. Information about voting by mail and applications can be found on the home page of our district website at www.ridgewood.k12.nj.us and on each of our school websites as well as at www.njelections.org /vote-by-mail.shtml.

Reader says ,”our BOE probably overspends by $25-35 mm “

414kh6Q 2HL

” Sure, our BOE probably overspends by $25-35 mm just here in Ridgewood alone. Just look at all of the virtually empty buses taking one or two students a few miles every day back and forth… and we’re a magnet for special needs kids because of all of the resources in our $111 mm BOE budget dedicated to special needs resources. While that’s great, what about the other 5,000 kids in our public schools who rank 23rd in SAT scores for the state? And don’t have statistically significant acceptance rates to top colleges & universities? From a high school most recently ranked 26th in the state with a declining trend now for years? #ChangeStartsAtTheTop #MommiesWontVoteNo #NotGettingOurMoneysWorth “
