AstraZeneca

Oxford UK,  according to Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, less than a week after suspending Phase 3 clinical trials for its candidate SARS-CoV-2 vaccine due to a serious adverse event, AstraZeneca announced that the trials have resumed in the UK. According to a press release issued by AstraZeneca, the trials resumed after the UK government’s Medicines Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA) evaluated the evidence and determined that it was safe to continue testing the vaccine. The press release states that AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford are not permitted to “disclose further medical information” regarding the adverse event, presumably including the associated safety data reviewed by MHRA or the results of their analysis. It appears that the Phase 3 trials in other countries remain on hold.

The Best-laid Plans of Mice and Men Often Go Awry…the Hudson Parking Garage

Hudson garage

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, since 1927 Village moms and  dads have complained about inadequate parking in Ridgewood’s  central business district . In the late 1960’s parking meters were added to the CBD to pay for a future parking garage , the chance was misplaced . Plans were drawn up over and over  and finally after much debate in early September of 2019 the Village Council pushed forward with the Hudson Garage . Progress came quickly ,but in March of 2019 COVID19  struck , wiping out the demand for commuter spaces  . then restaurants were shut down leaving the Village with a great white parking garage elephant . While things have started to return to some semblance of normal with outdoor dinning ,now partial indoor dinning .  Al Gore’s internet continues to steal retail sales ,restaurants are struggling to survive  and commuters may never return .  At lest the massive high density housing projects will now have access to more parking .

Reader says, Students should always come first

RHS 2017

“Covid-19 is NOT a lethal virus, that is a fact. Lethal viruses do not spread, as they kill their victim, which stops the spread. People are not dying from covid19, they are dying from the one or more, known or unknown underlying diseases they have. It is a fact that children are not dying from covid19. It is okay for them to get the virus. They will not melt. If teachers are afraid to get the virus, for a valid or invalid reason, then they should be given these options:. Resign, retire early, take a leave of absence, go on unemployment or wear a hazmat suit. The teachers can easily be temporarily replaced by young, unemployed certified teacher, which are many, or college graduates. Why do so many teachers make everything about them, rather than about the children? The only reason teachers have their job is because of
the students. Students should always come first. Students need to be in school in person. Virtual school is not the same and is not what our taxes pay for. Lastly, how are young children supposed to do virtual learning at home, when both parents have to go out to work? Most parents are NOT teachers, who have the luxury of staying home just because they are in a strong union, that controls the politrickers. Many teachers are not living in the real world and need to be made to realize that the world does NOT revolve around them.”

Washington DC, Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 1.4 million in August, and the unemployment rate fell to 8.4 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. These improvements in the labor
market reflect the continued resumption of economic activity that had been curtailed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and efforts to contain it. In August, an increase in government
employment largely reflected temporary hiring for the 2020 Census. Notable job gains also occurred in retail trade, in professional and business services, in leisure and hospitality, and
in education and health services.
