O’Malley is better than Hillary Clinton. Here’s why.

There’s a myth among Hillary Clinton supporters that decades of experience has made the former secretary of state the most pragmatic choice for president in 2016. And like most fairy tales, it conveniently glosses over the heroine’s flaws: her 31,000-plus missing emails (the subject of a lawsuit by the Associated Press), questions about foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation, and direct donations to Ms. Clinton from big banks, including Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan.

But there is an alternative. Rather than rallying around someone who can’t seem to elude perpetual media scrutiny, the person all Democrats should pay close attention to is former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley who is poised to officially join the race Saturday. The former Baltimore mayor and two-term governor offers a genuine alternative to the status quo within Washington and a real threat to any GOP challenger — especially Jeb Bush.

Mr. O’Malley, unlike Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush, isn’t linked to perpetual scandal and criticism, nor is he beholden to foreign donors, investment banks or a family surname. He rightfully stated that the presidency isn’t “some crown to be passed between two families” and compared to Ms. Clinton, Mr. O’Malley offers a genuinely progressive outlook on American politics. When both candidates are analyzed, it’s apparent that one caters to poll-driven centrism while the other is far more confident in a progressive vision for America.

Who is running for president in 2016?

While Ms. Clinton voted for the invasion of Iraq, Mr. O’Malley has been a longtime critic of the Iraq War. As governor, Mr. O’Malley sponsored and signed a same-sex marriage bill when Hillary Clinton was overtly against gay marriage. He also signed a marijuana decriminalization bill, while Ms. Clinton has said she was against the decriminalization of marijuana. Martin O’Malley wants to bring back Glass-Steagall, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership a “bad trade deal,” and urged the Senate in 2014 to reject the Keystone XL pipeline. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, once referred to TPP as “the gold standard in trade agreements,”and she still hasn’t taken a stance on the Keystone XL pipeline.

Media Ignoring Democratic Donations of LA Clippers’ Owner Donald Sterling , Allegedly Caught on Tape in Race-Based Rant

Donald Sterling Life long Democrat and NAACP Donner

In stunning audio posted at TMZ, Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling chides a person who is apparently his girlfriend for “taking pictures with minorities” and “associating with black people.” Sterling sees her as a “delicate” “Latina or white girl,” and as such doesn’t understand why she should “associate with black people.” He doesn’t want her bringing black people to games, including NBA legend Magic Johnson.

Assuming the audio is authentic — What kind of crazy, reactionary mindset would cause an owner who works in an industry dominated by black players to have such opinions and feelings? The evidence is admittedly thin and a bit dated, but to the extent it exists, that answer is, apparently, “one who supports and donates to liberal Democrats” (HT Gateway Pundit):

Transportation Crisis puts Christie, Democrats on Collision Course

Transportation Crisis puts Christie, Democrats on Collision Course

New Jerseyans pay more for unnecessary repairs caused by driving on poor or mediocre roads than residents of any other state. One out of every three bridges is decrepit or obsolete. Trains into Manhattan are jammed to capacity, with construction of a new rail tunnel at least a decade away.

Meanwhile, the Christie administration has borrowed so heavily that the Transportation Trust Fund that pays for highways, bridges, and mass-transit projects is going to run out of money a year early. And Gov. Chris Christie has called for the breakup of the Port Authority, the bistate agency set up to fund large-scale projects in the busiest transportation hub in the world.

“We certainly cannot renew the Transportation Trust Fund without a revenue source,” said Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex). “But I’m not sure that the public is prepared for the sticker shock of what it’s going to cost to fix our transportation system.”

While Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) has introduced legislation raising New Jersey’s gas tax, which is the second-lowest in the nation, by nine cents a gallon over three years, New Jersey Policy Perspective yesterday slapped a realistic sticker price on New Jersey’s transportation crisis: The liberal think tank suggested a plan to raise $1.25 billion a year by hiking the tax on a gallon of gas from 14.5 cents to 39 cents a gallon — which would still be lower than New York, Pennsylvania, and six other large urban states. Amid Ethics inquiry, South Jersey Democrat Is Giving Up House Seat for a New Job

Amid Ethics inquiry, South Jersey Democrat Is Giving Up House Seat for a New Job

WASHINGTON — Representative Robert E. Andrews announced on Tuesday that he would resign from Congress after more than two decades, but said it had nothing to do with a bleak outlook for Democratic chances of retaking the House or with an ethics investigation into alleged misuse of his campaign funds.

“I love Congress, but I love my family more,” Mr. Andrews, who represents part of southern New Jersey, said in an interview.

Mr. Andrews said at his Haddon Heights office that he would leave office on Feb. 18 to lead the government relations practice of Dilworth Paxson, a law firm that once employed his wife and is run by partners who attended his wedding.

“It’s an offer that won’t be there at the end of my term,” said Mr. Andrews, who added that he joined the firm, which has offices in Washington, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, to “help my family be financially secure.”

He has two college-age children, but the resignation also coincided with a sinking feeling among Democrats that their chance of recapturing the House is slipping away. His move comes in the wake of the decision to retire by Representative George Miller, Democrat of California and another key ally of the House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi.
