Donald Trump and Bikers Share Affection at Rolling Thunder Rally

Trump Rolling thunder

By THOMAS KAPLANMAY 29, 2016

WASHINGTON — Donald J. Trump, the Manhattan real estate mogul who boasts about his wealth, maintains a fleet of aircraft and sells his own brand of neckties, paid respects on Sunday to an incongruous constituency.

“Look at all these bikers,” Mr. Trump, standing before a crowd in front of the Lincoln Memorial, said with admiration. “Do we love the bikers? Yes. We love the bikers.”

Mr. Trump was addressing a gathering at the 29th annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle run, a vast event over Memorial Day weekend that is dedicated to accounting for military members taken as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action.

Bikers assembled at the Pentagon before riding en masse into the nation’s capital, with many dressed in leather vests covered in patches, their bikes rumbling throughout the afternoon.

For the blunt-spoken Mr. Trump, who likes to stress his desire to strengthen the military and improve how veterans are treated, the gathering provided a receptive audience, if one where he might otherwise seem out of place.

Trump raises prospect of replacing Yellen

mother goose

Sam Fleming in Washington

Donald Trump would probably replace Janet Yellen as Federal Reserve chair if he wins the presidential election, the presumptive Republican nominee said on Thursday.

The property developer turned politician told CNBC that Ms Yellen is “not a Republican” and that it would be “appropriate” to put someone new in the position when her four-year term expires in February 2018.

Nevertheless, Mr Trump also said that he agreed with Ms Yellen’s policy of keeping short-term interest rates low, saying that rate increases would push up the dollar and damage America’s competitive position with China, as well as making it harder to service US debt.

“I have nothing against Janet Yellen whatsoever; I think she has been doing her job,” said Mr Trump, describing her as “very capable”. However, he added: “She is not a Republican . . . when her time is up I would most likely replace her because of the fact that I think it would be appropriate.”

Donald Trump All but Clinches Nomination With Indiana Win; Cruz Quits

Trump_hat_boarder-theridgewoodblog

By JONATHAN MARTIN and PATRICK HEALYMAY 3, 2016

Donald J. Trump became the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on Tuesday with a landslide win in Indiana that drove his principal opponent, Senator Ted Cruz, from the race and cleared the way for the polarizing, populist outsider to take control of the party.

After months of sneering dismissals and expensive but impotent attacks from Republicans fearful of his candidacy, Mr. Trump is now positioned to clinch the required number of delegates for the nomination by the last day of voting on June 7. Facing only a feeble challenge from Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, Mr. Trump is all but certain to roll into the Republican convention in July with the party establishment’s official but uneasy embrace.

In the Democratic contest, Senator Bernie Sanders rebounded from a string of defeats to prevail in Indiana over Hillary Clinton, who largely abandoned the state after polls showed her faring poorly with the predominantly white electorate. But the outcome was not expected to significantly change Mrs. Clinton’s sizable lead in delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination.

Mr. Trump’s victory was an extraordinary moment in American political history: He is now on course to be the first standard-bearer of a party since Dwight D. Eisenhower, a five-star general and the commander of Allied Forces in Europe during World War II, who had not served in elected office.

Caitlyn Jenner uses ladies room at Trump Tower

Caitlyn Jenner, ridgewood

By Neetzan Zimmerman

Caitlyn Jenner has taken Donald Trump on his offer to use the restroom of her choosing while visiting one of his Trump Towers — and recorded the landmark moment for posterity.

“A trans woman in New York, I gotta take a pee,” Jenner says in a Facebook video filmed outside the Trump International Hotel and Tower near Central Park.

“Last week Donald Trump said I could take a pee anywhere in a Trump facility,” she continues. “I am gonna go take a pee in the ladies’ room.”

After returning from her brief bathroom trip, Jenner thanks Trump for the opportunity and informsTed Cruz that “nobody got molested.”
The billionaire businessman turned some heads last week when he appeared to suggest that North Carolina’s controversial “bathroom law” had gone too far.

Donald Trump could amass most primary votes in GOP history

trump trumpkins

By Bob Fredericks

April 27, 2016 | 11:15pm

Donald Trump will likely wind up winning the most primary votes of any GOP presidential candidate in modern history, the author of the influential Smart Politics blog told The Post on Wednesday.

After convincing victories in Tuesday’s primaries in five East Coast states, Trump has roughly 10.1 million votes, about 200,000 more than Mitt Romney got during the entire 2012 primary campaign.

And with the primaries ahead — including in populous states such as California, New Jersey and Indiana — the former “Apprentice” reality TV star should easily break the modern record of 10.8 million held by George W. Bush in 2000, according to blogger Eric Ostermeier, a political science professor at the University of Minnesota.

RNC chief: No changes to delegate requirement likely

Reince Priebus

By Jessie Hellmann

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday the GOP likely won’t change a rule that requires candidates to have 1,237 delegates to clinch the GOP presidential nomination.

“Having a plurality of the delegates means the field has the majority. You have to have the majority, it’s the United States of America,” Priebus said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “The majority rules, and that is an American concept I can’t imagine us turning our backs on.”

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has said repeatedly that he should receive the party’s nomination if he has more delegates than his opponents, even if he hasn’t reached 1,237.

Trump has ramped up his attacks against the RNC in the past week, accusing party officials of “canceling the vote” in Colorado, which had a convention to award delegates instead of a primary of caucus.

Meet the “Trump Bros”

Trump_hat_boarder-theridgewoodblog

By JACQUELINE ALEMANY CBS NEWS April 11, 2016

Jack Rowe, an 18-year-old high school student from St. Paul, Minnesota, sat in the front row of a Donald Trump rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin last weekend, sandwiched between two friends.

He had caucused for Trump in Minnesota for the very first time a few weeks earlier. Freckled and grinning, he sported a red “Make America Great Again” hat and a gray Trump t-shirt.

Rowe had some thoughts on Trump’s rhetorical treatment of women, which had been dominating the news lately thanks to the Republican front-runner’s comments about punishing women who have abortions. Mainly, Rowe said, it’s a non-issue.

“Misogyny was an issue about maybe 60, 80 years ago,” said Rowe. “That’s not an issue today. There are a lot bigger fish to fry…You know, ISIS is chopping off heads. We’ve got 19 trillion dollars in debt.”

Young men like Rowe are a common sight at Trump rallies around the country: Mostly white, they travel in packs and frequently wear Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” hats, pumping their fists and cheering loudly as protesters get hauled out by security. They document their political activity like any good millennial would, recording their outings on Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.

They are dudes, jocks, preps and just-your-average college and high school kids. But on the campaign trail, they’ve come to be known simply as “Trump Bros.”

In a revealing interview, Trump predicts a ‘massive recession’ but intends to eliminate the national debt in 8 years

Trump_hat_boarder-theridgewoodblog

By Bob Woodward and Robert Costa April 2 at 6:51 PM

Donald Trump said in an interview that economic conditions are so perilous that the country is headed for a “very massive recession” and that “it’s a terrible time right now” to invest in the stock market, embracing a distinctly gloomy view of the economy that counters mainstream economic forecasts.

The New York billionaire dismissed concern that his comments — which are exceedingly unusual, if not unprecedented, for a major party front-runner — could potentially affect financial markets.

“I know the Wall Street people probably better than anybody knows them,” said Trump, who has misfired on such predictions in the past. “I don’t need them.”

PA Voter Party Switching Unprecedented

At least 180K join GOP as Pa. primary nears

Updated: MARCH 29, 2016 — 1:07 AM EDT

by Caitlin McCabe and Chris Palmer, STAFF WRITERS

When Ted Cruz, John Kasich, and Donald Trump square off in Pennsylvania’s April 26 Republican presidential primary, they will find themselves competing for votes from a rapidly changing base.

At least 128,000 voters statewide have changed their registration since Jan. 1 to join the party. Nearly 85,000 of them had been Democrats; 42,000 were independents or third-party voters. The GOP has also racked up 55,468 more first-time registrants.

The changes reflect what experts are calling an unprecedented number of party switches before a primary election.

That raises questions: Are Democrats and other voters flocking to the GOP in support of one of its three candidates? Or could they be plotting to stuff the ballot boxes for a Republican they think their nominee can beat in November?

A Triumph by Trump Looking More Likely In Logic of Democracy

07trump-master675 (1)

By CONRAD BLACK, Special to the Sun | March 24, 2016

The feverish activity concerning a third-party race by Republican defectors from Donald Trump is sawdust. Any such effort would replicate the nonsensical challenges of Henry Wallace against Harry Truman in 1948 and John Anderson against Ronald Reagan in 1980. These ideological tantrums gained 2.4% of the vote in the first case and 6.6% in the second and had no effect on the result.

The notion of Rick Perry, the former Texas governor who couldn’t remember his third radical proposal for change of the government (“Oops”) and had his father-in-law perform a vasectomy on him, running against the Republican and Democratic nominees is an insane conjuration. The anti-Trump “strategists” (the most overused descriptive word in the news these days) are divided between those demanding that John Kasich withdraw, to give Ted Cruz a clear one-on-one shot at Trump, and those urging him to remain and effectively try to divide the electorate, so that only one of them would make a real effort in the state where he ran more strongly against Trump than the other.

“Bergen & Passaic Are NOT BLUE, Neither Is New Jersey, We Are Ignored! Donald Trump Will Not Ignore Us!”

Robert Auth

BREAKING ENDORSEMENT! A special message from Bergen & Passaic County Assemblyman Robert Auth

“Bergen & Passaic Are NOT BLUE, Neither Is New Jersey, We Are Ignored! Donald Trump Will Not Ignore Us!”

Dear Bergen and Passaic County Voters,

I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President of these United States.

Donald Trump is a neighbor who understands and cares about the quality of life in our region, but most importantly — I want us to win again! I believe Donald Trump is the only candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton in Bergen and Passaic County in this general election.

In a recent Fredric U. Dicker column (NY Post) it was reported that Trump is winning Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties.

These New York counties are neighbors to Bergen and Passaic, and their demographics are similar to ours. I believe Donald Trump will not only win them all, but help Republican candidates across New Jersey win at the local level, to help rebalance government within our local communities.

I ask you to join me in supporting Donald J. Trump for President. Not only will he Make America Great Again, he will help make New Jersey Great Again, and most importantly, he will help make a better Bergen and Passaic County for my constituents.

Whether it is through restructuring unfair trade deals, reforming health care, bringing REAL support to our veterans and law enforcement professionals, reducing taxes, or ending illegal immigration – Donald Trump will revive our economy and revitalize our national stature like no other candidate can.

Let’s work and vote together to make Bergen and Passaic Great Again. Donald Trump 2016!

N.J. Assemblyman Robert Auth (D39 – Bergen, Passaic)

Stop Trump Movement Gets Boost From Mexico’s Efforts in U.S.

Mexico bandito

Eric Martin and Nacha CattanMar 20, 2016 7:01 pm ET

(Bloomberg) — Mexico is mounting an unprecedented effort to turn its permanent residents in the U.S. into citizens, a status that would enable them to vote — presumably against Donald Trump.

Officially, Mexico says it respects U.S. sovereignty and has no strategy to influence the result of the presidential race. Yet Mexican diplomats are mobilizing for the first time to assist immigrants in gaining U.S. citizenship, hosting free workshops on naturalization.

“This is a historic moment where the Mexican consulate will open its doors to carry out these types of events in favor of the Mexican community,” Adrian Sosa, a spokesman for the consulate in Chicago, said before an event on March 19. In Dallas, about 250 permanent residents attended the consulate’s first “citizenship clinic” in February and another 150 in its second in March. In Las Vegas, the turnout topped 500.

Underscoring the fine line that separates participation from interfering in another country’s election, Sosa noted that the consulate only hosts the event but it’s community organizations who offer the advice.

Mexico may have the most at stake but it’s not alone among U.S. allies bewildered by — and worried about — the reality-television star’s success in the Republican primaries. Trump, who launched his campaign with invective directed at Mexico and a promise to build a border wall (with a “big beautiful door”), identified himself last week as his own top foreign-policy adviser.

“I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things,” Trump said on MSNBC when asked who he speaks with consistently on foreign policy. “My primary consultant is myself and I have a good instinct for this stuff.”

Anti-Donald Trump protesters briefly tussled with police officers outside the Republican presidential front-runner’s rally in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday night.

Videos showed protesters tearing down a security tent and chanting “shut it down” outside the rally, according to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City.

The network also reported rocks were being thrown at Trump supporters as they left the rally, and protesters were pushing up against a line of officers.

We choose the nominee, not the voters: Senior GOP official

Pay-for-Play

Matthew J. Belvedere | @Matt_Belvedere

Political parties, not voters, choose their presidential nominees, a Republican convention rules member told CNBC, a day after GOP front-runner Donald Trump rolled up more big primary victories.

“The media has created the perception that the voters choose the nomination. That’s the conflict here,” Curly Haugland, an unbound GOP delegate from North Dakota, told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Wednesday. He even questioned why primaries and caucuses are held.

Haugland is one of 112 Republican delegates who are not required to cast their support for any one candidate because their states and territories don’t hold primaries or caucuses.

Even with Trump’s huge projected delegate haul in four state primaries Tuesday, the odds are increasing the billionaire businessman may not ultimately get the 1,237 delegates needed to claim the GOP nomination before the convention.
