Ridgewood NJ, Is the Village of Ridgewood a national leader in water safety, or is there a transparency gap leaving residents in the dark?

Recently, Mayor Paul Vagianos and Ridgewood Water Director Richard Calbi took the stage at NJIT’s Workshop on Translational Research and Technology Innovations for PFAS Decontaminations. To the room of state legislators and environmental experts, Ridgewood was hailed as being “well ahead of the curve” in the fight against “forever chemicals.”

New Jersey, a state often described by environmental advocates as “ground zero” for environmental issues, is moving decisively to protect its residents from the harmful health impacts of PFAS—or Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances. These chemicals, dubbed “forever chemicals” because they do not naturally break down and accumulate in the human body and environment, are commonly found in thousands of consumer goods.

New Jersey to Host First-Ever PFAS Summit in 2025: Tackling “Forever Chemicals” with a United Front

TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey is stepping up once again in the fight against environmental challenges. On October 9–10, 2025, the state will host its first-ever PFAS Summit, bringing together leaders from across academia, government, and key industries to address the growing threat of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.”
