The “Kook Fringe” Doubles Down on Support for Village Council Candidate Paul Vagianos

take a knee

Ridgewood NJ, last week Glen Rock council discussed removing Good Friday as a holiday. The same  “kook fringe “ under the banner of JOLT has endorsed “take a knee” , Village Council Candidate Paul Vagianos.

While endorsing Candidate Paul Vagianos JOLT claims “falsehoods” are being disseminated about Vagianos , (like what?) and then they attempt to hide behind the veil of “civility ” and “honesty” . Where have we heard that before?

Frankly anyone who is successful and so ungrateful as to “take a knee” is not suited nor qualified for public office .

Ridgewood Blog offers an Apology to Our Neighbors in Glen Rock

Ridgewood NJ,a reader challenged us  on the recent blog article , “There was much ADO about the Pride Flag in Ridgewood “,https://theridgewoodblog.net/there-was-much-ado-about-the-pride-flag-in-ridgewood/ .

“I’m happy Ridgewood chose to fly the flag, but the basis of your article was not about the flag or why it is so important to so many, and how it might be a teaching opportunity about equality, fairness and just ‘not being an asshole’ tearing down another to raise yourself up. The point of your article appears to be that Ridgewood is great and Glen Rock is not. Kind of an asshole article, tearing down one town that has no dog in the Ridgewood debate, to attempt to elevate Ridgewood.”

Unfortunately there were a lot of ugly politics at play. The pride flag was being used as an attempt to undermine the Village of Ridgewood’s Mayor Susan Knudsen and several sitting council members. A group looking to put the previous council back in place  used the pride flag to pressure the Ridgewood Village council by saying, look how great Glen Rock is ,they are wonderful and you are just a bunch of ignorant bigots .

The net result is many in Ridgewood felt they were being disparaged and it led to back lash which you see in that article . It is really not aimed at Glen Rock but  at Alfred Doublin of the Bergen Record , Village Councilmen Jeff Voigt and members of CRAB , Jan Phillips as well as the former Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn . The unfortunate side effect or unintended consequence is an attack on Glen Rock  and for that the Ridgewood blog would like to offer an apology to the Borough of Glen Rock and the Residents of Glen Rock. We did not in anyway mean to impune our neighbors ,who where simply caught in local Village political crossfire. Do not blame the Village , as editor and staff we should have made this far clearer in the article .

Glen Rock council to vote on S-2 zone , multi family high density housing

With a final vote on a new age-restricted housing zone in Glen Rock now pushed to Sept. 16, the measure and its purpose were again challenged at the Wednesday, Aug. 26 Borough Council meeting.

Resident and attorney Ron D’Argenio ramped up his public opposition to the pending “S-2” zone ordinance, arguing that the existing zone for multiple-unit senior housing (S-1) is sufficient and saying the new one was conceived and advanced chiefly to accommodate an individual developer’s plan.

Disagreeing with building regulations to be permitted in the new zone, D’Argenio had also assailed the council at an Aug. 10 work session for recently “downplaying” what he called obvious links between the S-2 ordinance and a senior citizen apartment development planned by Glen Park Village LLC – and calling that stance “intellectual dishonesty” and “deception.”

He also criticized the absence of public council conversation around the project or the zoning question, over the period when the borough Planning Board was drafting the S-2 ordinance for its consideration earlier this year.

Mayor John van Keuren and Councilwoman Joan Orseck are also Planning Board members.

GLEN ROCK — Before a closed-door council meeting last week, in which an investigation into “the general culture within the police department” was being discussed, the borough served its top two police officers with written notices that matters related to their jobs would be discussed, officials said.

Glen Rock Mayor John van Keuren and the borough’s attorney, Robert Garibaldi, both confirmed Wednesday that before the Aug. 17 meeting what are known as Rice notices were supplied to Chief of Police Frederick Stahman and his second-in-command, Capt. Jonathan Miller.

The notices, Garibaldi said, were issued “as a matter of practice,” provided “sensitive” discussions were scheduled for the private meeting and the names of both veteran officers “were going to be mentioned.”

The Glen Rock Planning Board has approved a draft ordinance that would permit “S-2” zoning at appropriate sites for the building of multiple-dwelling senior citizen housing, and has recommended its adoption by the Borough Council.

At present, the only option now open to developers of such projects is to apply to the borough for a use variance.

The board’s action came at a special meeting called for that purpose on June 9. Planners had previously reviewed an earlier version of the ordinance at a May session, opting to submit it for professional review.

Planning Board secretary Nancy Spiller said the draft approved last week included recommendations to reduce housing density of any such construction to 30 units per acre from 35 in the original draft; increase the front yard setback to 40 feet from 25 feet; and increase side yard setback to 15 feet from 10 feet. In addition, required total property side yard setbacks were increased to 30 feet from 20 feet, while minimum parking was reduced from two spaces per unit in the prior draft to 1.5.

GLEN ROCK — The Borough Council agreed to reinstate police officers Christopher McInerney and Bryan Scott Wednesday evening, moving to return both officers to the force nearly three months after they were suspended.

The decision was made at the Glen Rock council’s meeting Wednesday night, which was attended by some 40 police supporters, including several of Scott and McInerney’s fellow borough officers.

Applause filled the room after the council approved a pair of resolutions, read aloud by Mayor John van Kuren, restoring Scott to his position as a borough police officer and McInerney to his rank as sergeant.

A wave of relief washed over Scott’s face, and he kissed his wife, Ellen. His mother, Pat, smiled at her son.
