Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the sentencing term handed down in Bergen County Superior Court on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, against 46-year-old CLARENCE STOKES of Paterson, NJ in connection with the 2021 murder of 44-year-old Latrice Avery and 67-year-old Stanley Gunter, both of whom resided in Hackensack, NJ when the defendant murdered them.

Fair Lawn NJ, three (3) ambulances were observed tending to victims at the scene of a three (3) vehicle, head -on, Thursday night, 11/24, crash on the Maple Avenue, Fair Lawn bridge over Route 208. One (1) victim was wheeled to a waiting ambulance on a stretcher and subsequently transported to The Valley Hospital; all others appeared to have been “walking wounded” and may or may not have required hospital treatment. Fair Lawn Police, Fair Lawn Fire Department, Fair Lawn EMS, Glen Rock Police, Hackensack EMS, and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue responded to the incident, which blocked all traffic on Maple Avenue near Route 208 for an extended period.
