Hawthorne firefighter Injured and Several Animals Rescued in 2 Alarm Blaze

Hawthorne NJ, one (1) firefighter sustained a minor injury while helping to extinguish a two-alarm structure fire in the 200 block of Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne on Monday morning, 01/17. Although a dog and a cage full of tropical birds were successfully rescued from the burning structure, several chickens perished in the blaze. An aggressive interior attack by Hawthorne firefighters confined the blaze to the home’s breezeway and attached garage. Hawthorne Police Department and Hawthorne EMS also responded to the incident.

3 Alarm Attic Fire at Lafayette Avenue Home in Wyckoff has Firefighters battling Heavy Smoke

Wyckoff NJ, on May 12 the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a home on Lafayette Avenue for a reported attic fire in a large residential home. Initial arriving crews reported heavy smoke emanating from the home. A second alarm was dispatched to the scene. An aggressive interior attack was conducted while exterior truck crews opened up. The fire was brought under control within an hour, with mutual aid from Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department. Waldwick Ladder 641 responded on the third alarm structure fire on Lafayette Ave in Wyckoff. Once on scene the truck maneuvered up a tight driveway to set up as the second tower ladder.

Hawthorne Fire Department Races to Stop Church Fire

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Fire Department responded to a 911 telephone call report of a working fire inside of the 452 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne on Sunday morning, 01/28. Radio reports from Police units arriving at the scene reported that the church altar had caught fire, but was extinguished upon their arrival.

Fire Department personnel removed the still smoking altar from the building and used thermal imaging cameras to ensure that there had been no fire extending to the structure. Ventilation was also performed by Fire Department personnel. No injuries were reported by any of the church staff, nor by any member of the congregation. Hawthorne Police provided traffic control during the incident.

Black Bear Once Again Spotted in Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, for the second time this week ,a black bear that’s been wandering around a Hawthorne neighborhood for the past few days was treed again, this time in the rear yard of a home located within the 800 Block of Lafayette Avenue Extension, Hawthorne, on Tuesday evening, 06/13. Several Hawthorne PD units responded to residents’ telephone calls of a bear running through back yards. However, based upon an advisory from NJDEP Fish & Game officials via telephone, no attempt was made to capture the bear due to the approach of darkness. Police advised residents to stay indoors until the bear came down from the tree and left the area. One police officer on the scene indicated that the bear appeared to be injured.
