Ridgewood NJ, at Mondays Ridgewood Board of Education meeting Dr. Fishbein explained that, when news came out about concerns regarding rubberized gym floors, the district had our rubberized gym floor at the high school tested. Although the test results indicated that the mercury levels were below the level of concern, the district is moving forward with remediation and replacement of the floor. LAN will prepare the bid specs and the architecture for the replacement of the gym floor. The environmental group is developing the bid specs for the remediation. If we remain closed for the rest of the school year, we may begin work on this project sooner.

Reader says ,”Dr. Fishbein’s relationship with LAN has to be more heavily scrutinized”

“Dr. Fishbein’s relationship with LAN has to be more heavily scrutinized. The mere fact that only one firm was awarded or sought to submit bids for these projects screams conflict of interest. Our Village resources are both limited and sacred. Formal RFP’s should be sought from numerous accredited firms demonstrating the wherewithal required to both execute and provide warranties for these critical projects, which should then be collectively vetted and selected by the board. Given the magnitude of dollars, and the associated impact on the Village’s fiscal health and on resident tax bills, anything short of a thorough and transparent process is a grossly negligent fulfillment of their fiduciary responsibilities to the residents.

This referendum should be a hard “NO” until these matters are fully vetted and cross checked.”

We are a bunch lambs marching in front of hungry wolves

Werewolves Of London
by Steve Kim

Mr.LAN says there is no plan drawn or spec’ed…

Yet LAN Associates can come up with estimates to the last dollar. What incentive does LAN have to quote a realistic estimate when the risk of underestimation is getting the ire of Dr.Fishbein? EI Associates is outside looking in for aiming for realism. Guess what contractors would use as an anchor point in their bidding for these projects. Guess what happens then with left over surplus because of encouraged overestimation.

Calls to Abolish NJ’s School Development Authority in Wake of Staffing Scandal

Parsippany NJ, Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce (R-26) demanded the Legislature take action on her bill to abolish the School Development Authority (SDA) and place school construction responsibilities under the Department of Treasury, after the state was forced this week to fire 30 SDA employees whose hiring violated state ethics guidelines

A-5330, introduced by the Assemblywoman after the SDA staffing scandal broke in April, will transfer all school construction responsibilities now handled by the troubled agency to the Division of Property Management and Construction in the Department of Treasury. Assemblywoman DeCroce noted that her legislation will provide the Governor and Legislature more direct authority to control school construction activities, while allowing the state Economic Development Authority (EDA) to retain its responsibility for the financing of school construction projects.
