East Rutherford NJ, The American Dream Mall in East Rutherford is facing more challenges. American Dream, LLC., the Triple Five company that owns the American Dream site, has filed a lawsuit against Villa Restaurant Group for breaching its contract. Villa Restaurant Group signed a lease in June 2015 to open a Green Leaf and Tony + Benny’s Pizza Parlor in the mall, but construction is still not complete. A number of construction companies have filed liens against the property saying that they are owed nearly $41 million for work completed.

The Massive Toll Increases for the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway go into effect on Sunday

Paramus NJ, The toll increases for the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway go into effect on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Tolls will increase by 36% on the NJ Turnpike, with an average trip increasing from $3.50 to $4.80. Tolls on the Garden State Parkway will increase by 27%, increasing an average trip of $1.11 to $1.41. The money from the toll hike will go toward various projects, including the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway expansion plan approved in May.

Trenton NJ, Senator Steven Oroho has sent a letter to Senator Paul Sarlo, chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, calling for at least one Senate Budget Committee meeting to be open to public testimony. The public is currently not allowed to attend any of the Budget hearings. Committee members, invitees, and staff will participate from remote locations using video conferencing technology. The public may view the meeting through the State Legislatures homepage.

Turnpike, Parkway Sees Drop in Traffic But Toll Hikes Still Going Forward

Paramus NJ, The NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway have seen a decrease in traffic and toll revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to the NJ Turnpike Authority, traffic on the Turnpike was down 30% through June and traffic on the Parkway was down 26%. Revenue for both highways dropped by 27%, but the agency has said that they are $53 million under budget this year so far. The NJ Turnpike Authority recently approved toll hikes and massive highway widening projects for both the NJ Turnpike and GS Parkway that will cause environmental damage and increase climate impacts.
