NEWARK NJ, a keen-eyed New Jersey Transit Police Officer on patrol in Newark Penn Station this week spotted and arrested a suspect wanted for a home invasion robbery and attempted murder of a 17-year-old girl in Montclair. New Jersey Transit Police Officer Bryan Richards recognized the suspect walking in Newark Penn Station on Monday November 9th after a bulletin was issued by Montclair police and placed him under arrest.
Ridgewood NJ, As an additional measure to protect customers and employees from the spread of COVID-19, NJ TRANSIT is introducing vending machines on a pilot basis to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face masks, hand sanitizer, sanitized wipes and disposable gloves at Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal. The machines will also be installed at other select stations over the coming weeks.

The individual is seen on surveillance footage inappropriately touching the victim outside of Newark Penn Station on 6/28/20. The NJTPD Detective Bureau is looking to positively identify the actor prior to formal questioning. The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20’s to early 30’s wearing camouflage shorts with drawstrings, a black sleeveless shirt and black sneakers. Newark NJ, As part of Amtrak’s ongoing commitment to protect customers and front-line employees in response to the coronavirus pandemic, beginning on May 11 Amtrak is requiring that all customers in stations, on trains and thruway buses wear facial coverings.
Newark NJ, To protect NJ TRANSIT customers and employees, the hours of operation at Newark Penn Station will be modified overnight to allow for a daily deeper cleaning and disinfection. Starting Sunday, May 3 until further notice, NJ TRANSIT will close Newark Penn Station overnight from 11:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. The station will reopen daily at 4:30 a.m.

NEWARK NJ, A Newark man today admitted possessing heroin that was seized from him at Newark Penn Station, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Jeremy Lorenzo, 30, of Newark, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty to one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 200 grams of heroin.

A suspect facing charges for attempted murder and more who was wanted by Harrison Police was located by New Jersey Transit Police Officers. On Monday, October 7th, Officer Hector Martinez spotted the suspect entering Newark Penn Station and together with Officer Alexander Maillard, quickly stopped and detained him pending the arrival of Harrison Police and the FBI. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and charged by Harrison Police.
Newark NJ, NJ Transit Police officers located and captured a man armed with a handgun, stun gun and knife.
The New Jersey Transit Police have arrested Qudamah Hamilton, 34, of Brooklyn NY for charges including possession of a stolen firearm and resisting arrest.
On Thursday April 18th, at approximately 1200 p.m. New Jersey Transit Police Officer David Osterhoudt relayed radio information from Newark PD describing Hamilton being wanted for aggravated assault, domestic violence. Hamilton was reported to be armed and heading towards Newark Penn Station via light rail vehicle. NJTPD Officer Todd Hardifer managed to spot Hamilton on board a moving light rail vehicle headed to Penn Station. Officer Hardifer radioed ahead, providing Hamilton’s description and car number.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is advising customers of upcoming Amtrak signal work which will impact rail travel Friday night November 10th through Saturday and Sunday November 11th-12th. Amtrak’s work, between Newark Penn Station and Secaucus, continues their effort to maintain its Northeast Corridor in a state of good repair.
NJ TRANSIT is relying on assurances by Amtrak the work will be complete prior to the start of the Monday morning rush hour on November 13th.
Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, November 10th and continuing through the end of service on Sunday, November 12th, customers traveling on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line may experience delays of up to 60 minutes in both directions. The Amtrak work will require signals near Newark Penn Station to be taken out of service, requiring trains to operate at restricted speeds.
To accommodate this signal work and manage train traffic through the area, NJ TRANSIT will not operate the Northeast Corridor 7600 series trains between Rahway and Penn Station New York. Customers will be accommodated by the following train which is scheduled 5-10 minutes behind the 7600 series. Those trains will add a station stop at North Elizabeth.
During that same time, Amtrak will maximize this work period to also perform track work where the Raritan Valley Line connects with the Northeast Corridor. Customers on the Raritan Valley Line will have substitute busing in place to/from Newark Penn Station as follows:
Friday night 11/10 9 p.m. through the end of the service day busing will be in place in both directions between Cranford and Newark Penn Station.
Saturday 11/11 and Sunday 11/12 busing will be in place all day in both directions between Union and Newark Penn Station.
Customers on these three rail lines (NEC, NJCL, RVL) are advised to allow for extra time to and from their destinations. Customers also should pay close attention to station and crew announcements.
This work will impact customers on the NEC, NJCL and RVL planning to attend the following sports events and concerts. Customers are strongly encouraged to allow plenty of extra travel time:
11/11 NY Rangers at MSG 1 p.m.
11/11 NY Knicks at MSG at 8 p.m.
11/11 NJ Devils at Prudential Center at 7 p.m.
11/12 Dead & Company concert at MSG at 7 p.m.

Newark NJ, Extension would provide access to the airport via a one-seat ride from Manhattan and add transit access to the Dayton Street neighborhood in Newark’s South Ward
The Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners today authorized $57 million in planning funds for the first phase of the PATH system extension to Newark Liberty International Airport, a projected $1.7-billion project that is a key component of the board’s 2017-2026 capital plan and essential to improved regional rail service for the commuting public.
“The Port Authority is committed to making critical investments in a transportation network that supports regional growth and meets the demands of the millions of people who live, work and visit the region,” said Port Authority Chairman John Degnan. “This planning effort will provide analysis of key components – ridership data, cost updates, environmental and economic impacts – to help the agency continue to evaluate the project before moving forward with construction.”
“Our 10-year capital plan dedicates $32 billion towards strategic investments to support the modernization of critical transportation infrastructure,” said Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye. “This project improves transportation access to Newark Airport while extending PATH’s trans-Hudson network in Newark.”
Subject to completion of the environmental review process and project authorization by the Port Authority board, the project would include a new station in Newark’s South Ward Dayton Street neighborhood, a new rail yard facility and modification of existing platforms at Newark Penn Station to accommodate increased passenger flow.
Today’s authorization provides funding critical to move the project through preliminary design and the required environmental review process. It includes funds for environmental and transportation services, including preliminary engineering work as well as program and project management services.
Currently, the PATH Newark-to-World Trade Center line’s western-most point is Newark Penn Station. The project will extend the line west through the Dayton Street neighborhood in Newark’s South Ward, ending at the Newark Liberty rail link station.
Once approved, construction of the extension is expected to begin in 2020 with full revenue service to start in 2026. As a multimodal transportation hub, the new station also will reduce traffic congestion and provide environmental benefits through increased use of public transportation.

Several of New Jersey’s high-ranking elected officials gathered in Newark Penn Station Wednesday to present the federal government with a dire warning: either follow through on a commitment to fund a portion of the $24 billion trans-Hudson rail project known as Gateway or, in the words of U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, prepare for “traffic Armageddon.”
“We are in a state of crisis,” said Booker, a Democrat. “In fact, we are long past a state of crisis and New Jersey residents are feeling it just about every single day.”
Gateway, perceived as one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country, would double rail capacity between Newark and New York City by digging a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River and upgrading aging bridges, among other improvements.
But it’s a race against time. The current two-track tunnel under the Hudson River was badly damaged during Superstorm Sandy and will need to be repaired in the next 20 years, reducing train service by 75 percent.
NEWARK NJ ,New Jersey Transit Police have charged a man with criminal sexual contact after identifying him from a victim’s description given to police a few days earlier.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday, September 9, 50-year-old Raghavan E. Narayanan of Hillsborough was arrested at Newark Penn Station and charged with criminal sexual contact. Officers recognized him from a description given by a female customer, who reported a man inappropriately touched her while on board a NJ TRANSIT train two days earlier.
“We are grateful that the New Jersey Transit Police were able to act so quickly in apprehending this person,’’ said Interim Executive Director Dennis Martin. “The safety of our customers is paramount to us and we do not take that lightly.’’
“The officers of the New Jersey Transit Police Department are the eyes and ears of the state’s transportation system,’’ said Police Chief Christopher Trucillo. “Incidents like this reinforce how our police department is vigilant when it comes to protecting our customers both in plain sight and behind the scenes.’’
Narayanan was issued a summons and released pending a court date for later this month.
The charges and allegations contained in this release are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
