Kids pick up a new language scary fast. This paradox is familiar to anyone who moves to a new country with children. While you”re still fighting with the local language at the post office, forgetting simple words and sometimes not even being able to open your mouth out of fear, your six-year-old is already building social capital with the locals on the playground. A couple more months and one evening at dinner they answer you in English, Spanish, French or German without even noticing it. That”s the moment when many Polish parents abroad get a small, cold worry: what if my child forgets their native language? For many families, Polish television is the one thing at home that keeps the language alive.
